It is sad in one sense, however the world is substantially a happier (and better) place because of the lives that these people lived. It is quite something to celebrate a full life IMO.

I mean for heaven's sake, in 400 years when processed meat is banned and replaced by lab grown meat, they will still be calling unsolicited email "spam" because a bunch of English dudes in the 70s decided to make a comedy skit about spam and vikings.

Well if the humour is not for you, it isnt for you...

As for the religion choice...it wasnt a major stand. They were having fun
They were almost all educated at posh English Universities (mainly Oxford)
Back in the 60s, Christianity was pretty much the origins of most of the colleges

They took the p1ss out of what they knew...to perform to an audience that only knew Christianity

WHat you have them do? Research religions they didnt know to be more diverse?

I have noticed the old farts are increasingly seen as racist these days by the woke brigade funny enough.

Given the liberal arts educations they likely received they would have known enough about the other religions to poke fun at them.... no direct contact required.

I have noticed that people that dislike christianity for whatever reason usually fall into the group that worships this python lot..... which is ironic since a python is a serpent but nevermind that.

For what it's worth I do remember the bit of the protestants having almost no children and the catholics having too many being slightly funny only spoilt by the forcedness of it.
