Testers Needed for my Media Centre Program, MediaFox™

i've uploaded a video on youtube wayne,

unfortunately the MOVIE Preview (next to the info) and fullscreen playback was not captured by the stupid camtasia software - it just recorded black :erm:

has anyone got it to work that is using Windows XP though?

@Prof - there are a few, but some give slow playback, others are complicated, others don't download covers

the best i would say is XBMC, although it is not as lightweight as MediaFox - you require a decent PC.

Maybe you can add a low resolution mode later on... :D

@Keeper

I have now tried it in Vista and it works. No errors that I could see.
Still no luck on Win 7. Tried different compatibility modes, restarts and running as administrator and not.

Tried it. Didn't go well tbh.

The upload site you are using is very slow (8KB/s). Avast caught it, but I disabled the AV 2nd time round.

The aspect ratio is broken. Both my screen and the movies are widescreen yet it squashes everything (incl text & dialogs) to 4:3.

Text is very difficult to read, but I think thats just because of the squashed view.

No info shown on the thumbnails, just black with crosses of some sort.

It found info for 1 out of 3 movies I put into folders. (Boondock saints yes, hitman & fightclub no).

Somewhere in that process of browsing it started lagging, then audio started lagging & everything became unresponsive. Eventually managed to kill it with the task manager. Whole OS aspect ratio still squashed at this point. OS was still a lag fest & ended up hard resetting the PC.

Vista x86.

and, did it download covers/etc? playback?

It did download covers. Didn't test playback.
Actually just wanted to see if it opens in Vista.

Hate Vista, so maybe later I will boot into Vista again. But don't count on it.

the site i am using is www.themoviedb.org - dunno why it would be slow - it uses XML code which is fast to download!

what screen do you have? a 16:9 or 16:10 screen?

can you give me a screenshot of this: "No info shown on the thumbnails, just black with crosses of some sort."

was hitman & fightclub in its own subfolder? were the folders named "fight club" or something weird like "fightclub_ENG_blabla.DVD.RIP_Action"

what audio lagged? the movie's audio?

and yeah - if you kill it with task manager it will not revert your resolution to its original....

thanks for the input :)

For interest sake. The folder name should be Braveheart and not that whole Braveheart1994.DVDRip.DivX thingy.
But what about the .avi file itself? Does that also need renaming?

nope - just the folder.

i'm gonna see if I can move my code to another scripting software - perhaps to "Neobook" or "Autoplay Media Studio 7.5" if I can learn it fast.... wanna get rid of the problems and virus warnings

I can only program with RAD Software (Rapid application Development) - I'm too dumb for C++ or .Net Development hehe....

if you are interested in programming but not smart enough for C++ etc - try these apps - it's easy!

No the place where you uploaded the app.

16:10 screen. 1680x1050

Yes, own subfolder. "fightclub" and "hitman".

No, had an mp3 playing in the background.

oh well - gonna try recoding everything in another program that looks very promising

so don't worry about testing any more, give me ideas on what the perfect media centre would be, and i'll try to add that rather.

thanks to everybody that tested at least.

ok - did a quick test application with neobook - can anyone test if there are ANY virus warnings, does it go to fullscreen, etc,etc ?

this exe doesn't do anything - it's just a empty test app, i just wanna know if the EXE's created by NeoBook:
1) doesn't report false viruses
2) works without needing any C++ Libraries/etc
3) can go fullscreen wihout any problems
4) WORKS IN WINDOWS 7

if it works, i'll start transplanting my code ASAP.

thank you for all the testing guys

The new test1.exe file runs fine in Windows 7, and is not detected as a virus.

Runs in Wine with ubuntu 9.10 - a bit slow to reach fullscreen but it does what it's supposed to from what you've said.

I'll gladly test on whatever I can when you have something substantial again. Keen.

YAY!

Another Yay!

it's changing resolutions, so that doesn't matter really. Windows can take 3 seconds and thats fine - as long as the iPhone-like browsing is fast!
I just hope neobook runs code as fast as MMB does, but so far it looks promising!

So yeah guys - if you have any ideas that would make a media centre cool, post them please and i'll gladly add them ;)

A winamp type music interface would be nice, especially being able to randomly play songs from your entire collection.

What about finding and displaying a song's lyrics on screen?

Just what I need for my TV, I will try it when I get home next week.

does it catalogue dvds copied on your HDD as well, or only ripped AVIs?

only avi's, mpg, mkv, etc...

it works great on winxp it seems, but not on vista - so i'm stopping development and re-doing everything on another platform... lol

don't think so - i don't have an xbox so i'm clueless...

is an xbox able to run exe's ?

why don't you use xbmc?
