Testing a 10Gbps home fibre connection

So MyBB test servers are not configured for thos speeds, hence the 'slow' speeds - but it's not clear from the below whetherOOkla are or aren't ? He only got 4.3Gbps - so is the link slow or the server also not configured?
Practically everything along the way and the server itself would have some form of impact. It's very rare that you'd find a full 10gbit/s single thread path across the public internet.
 
I have yet to see a residential use case for anything exceeding 2.5gbps. 10gbps might have some demand in residential application but use cases would revolve around extremely time-sensitive movement of very large amounts of data and most likely work-from-home/home-office scenarios or a wisp/body corp etc wanting to share a connection.

This, I've seen a scary fast connection too but the reason for it made sense... The guy in question has monitor traffic cams and CCTV cams in real time.

Yip, a mate of mine in IT in NZ, has had yes since 2018, and most installations they handle these days are 10Gb/s installs.

As for Australia, I know they are like us.
Think your mate is talking porky pies there, how could NZ which is further away than Australia have better internet?
The 2degree ones seem to use link aggregation to hit 4gb/s

New Zealand launched XGS-PON 10gbit symmetrical links which allows "up to 10gbit" but the commercial services tend to obviously favour the split rather than dedicating the entire fibre to the max port speed. Where an ISP does allow it's typically around 1,2,4 or 8gbit and it's subject to quite a heavy contention ratio the higher the rate as a result.

I am also still on Windows 3.11. Waiting on the next best Windows 12. (Of which I won't upgrade to as I will say I am waiting for Windows 13)

People who say we will not use 10Gbps are the same people who said we do not need 10Mbps in 2000 or 100Mbps in 2010.
It would be helpful if end user devices would keep up. It's a shame that 1gbit/s interfaces are the norm.

What does distance have to do with it? You can have a 10GB connection to your house even if the rest of the infrastructure can't support that speed
 
Do anybody know how they are coming along with IPv6? Now that Amazon will charge for IPv4 addresses it would be nice to have IPv6 (without VPN or gateways).
 
Our block of flats (40 units) has a 1Gbps fibre connection and there has never been a problem with speed.
Ok, not ALL units have fibre connected, probably half.
Still, the service seems totally fine.
10Gbps seems like something you'd install for an entire estate or some kind of local hosting application.

I think few people claim that a 10Gbps connection will never be essential in the future, what I would say is that for now, in 2024 and the foreseeable future, such a connection is redundant and a waste of money for a small user. One could apply for such a connection at any time, it's not as if if you don't get it now, you can never get it in the future.

Agree. Probably, only when 8K streaming becomes mainstream, will I upgrade my line speed to something like 500Mbps. But for now, 100Mbps is fine for my family needs.
 
I want to extend my fibre network by connecting a 40m LAN cable to it; and adding a WiFi-repeater to connect and re-distribute the signal. Any suggestions?

If you want 10Gbps in the future you need early adopters to start now.

The very availability of 10Gbps helps because it establish the new top-line and making the previous high-end a commodity.
 
I've recently downgraded from 1 Gbps to 100 Mbps and didn't notice the difference. I don't know why I went up to 1 Gbps to start off with.
