Ok got it up and running so will give you guys feedback during the month. I have a couple torrents to get done this month so lets see how it goes.

I have a 512 line so should I expect speeds to be lower than what I achieve on my telkom 3gig account?

:D As far as I know these things are limited to the slower of the two (account speed / line speed) but I've never had a line speed greater than the account speed so I can't speak from experience.

Speeds are pretty slow during the day, but Im at work so it doesnt really bother me that much, I did get a bit annoyed on saturday as I wasnt able to connect for the whole day ( Im in the Durban area) however Im not sure if thats their fault or Telkoms. I also noticed sometimes that certain chat programmes take a long time to load up ( msn messenger and xfire )

ok the line worked like a dream last night brining in 1.7gig of info from 7pm till 7am.

The speeds have dropped for the day time which would not make a difference for me on any other day but today I am sick and at home. Other than that all is good with Uncapped express.

WoW... what is the total cost you are paying, ie. line rental, 512line + the 384 express uncapped ? I'm considering it for my factory...

Uncapped express 384 accounts work at full line speed after hours, that means you can enjoy 4096kbit DSL after hours on the 384 account, weekends included, so test the speed you get after hours :)

Question: When throttled, does your UPload speed decrease proportionately? Or is it just the download that drops?? Just download would be cool. No throttling/thresholds would be better:)

I think both your upload and download decrease, however I have 4mbit so the faster your line the more you benifit after hours.

If I were to use the 384Uncapped account, I could run bit torrent at max speed throughout the night, downloading aprox. 16.5GB per night, that makes it great value for R899 a month.

However on slower line like the 512Kbit, you won't see much benifit after hours in terms of the amount of data you're going to download.

And btw, people who are using the 512Kbit, why not upgrade to 4Mbit?

Faster DSL Based on 512 Technology R 326.00
Fastest DSL Based on 4096 Technology R 413.00

I want to. What number do I dial for the upgrade?

try 10215
please note that on 4mbit, international latencies are not drastically better, until we get a propper link to the rest of the world 4mbit not as good as it should be.

What can you do with 4mbit, well local and most international transfers are at full speed, 410Kb/s
Local transfers are of course full speed from the ftp servers.
Local latency is around 16ms on my line.

Browsing websites is slightly faster, YouTube videos sometimes still fail to buffer fast enough but it is acceptable at times, again if you compare it to local video sites such as zoopy or even metacafe you'll notice local videos buffer very fast.

All in all, it's worth it especially if you're paying for the 512kbit, from 384kbit, if you're happy with it leave 4mbit but once you experience 4mbit it's difficult to go back.

I think Seacom will make a difference and if your ISP utilises Seacom and they perform, then 4mbit will be amazing.

Ok so far all is good.

At night 7pm till 7am speed doubles but is slightly slower than my telkom and 3g account.
The account does not seem to be shaped as I struggle to use webmail and IM applications when using P2P.

i use webafrica is uncapped.
speeds have been constant at 50kbps average (over the last 2 days)

Where do you guys download from? Anyone download Blue Ray movies??

rapidshare for one. and br movies would be a waste. br rips (5gigs per movie) on the other hand....
i dont personally get br movies, cos they are bandwith intensive, but i see a lot of the local crowd does

Ok, I just an 46" tv so wanna get some BR to test it out
