Tetherberry for Blackberry on MTN

Has anyone tried it? And got it working?

I found it yesterday, downloaded it on laptop and OTA on my BB Curve.

I get it to connect, but it will not download, gives an error that I can't remember the exact wording of, but it is something to do with java.io, can't write in receive. Googled it, only thing I can seem to find is the APN might be wrong.

I have used myMTN (no username or password), internet (no username or password), internet (username and password 'guest) and blackberry.net (no username or password). None of them work.

The trial expires tomorrow, and I would like to know if it works?

Our cables have been stolen again, and we are in a terrible 3g signal area, so this would be a great solution for the time being.

Help please!

If that's the case then it is easy enough to use most blackberrys as an external modem but if you're really hoping to use your all-inclusive data plan then I would think MTN would have done everything and anything in their power to discourage this.
 
Yes you can't use you your free data plan but you can definitely use the standard MTN service (R2/meg or get a data bundle) and tether your phone as a modem. Try using the Blackberry software that came with your phone. I'm using my phone as a modem on Linux with Barry (free software) so you shouldn't need to buy extra software to get it to work.
Leave your TCP/APN settings on your phone blank. You should be able to organise this on Windows with no software, you might have to use the MTN data string somewhere, the the myBB MTN forums sticky for more.

I am from The Netherlands, live in South Africa for 3 years now. Internet is NOT affordable in this country , Neotel charge 400 rand for a serial modem with a SHIZT connection.
In The Netherlands we have glass cables with High speed internet for not even 300 rand UNLIMITED.
BUT in this damn country they want to stop TetherBerry just because we cant have cheap internet. those f@king service providers , MTN,VODACOM make more than enough money to survive ONLY BY Voice data.
Its ridicules how SA is build . to greedy for money, believe me, If the coverment here was straight and not corrupt for money , we were more farder , get more support from other countries.this country is far behind for a good reason. SA was just lucky with getting the world cup and still coverment steals that money. :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:
 
Oh and believe me BB data plan is all the same in the world and SA is not that special to change that.
 
Agreed. The BB plan is the same the world throughout. While there are any number of reasons to complain about SA service providers this isn't one of them.
Also I'd like to know what money the government is stealing in relation to the world cup, from what I've seen the government is overspending because of the event not with-holding or stealing. Please back up your accusations.
