Tetherberry

If you're trying to use "free" BIS for internet on your laptop then no it won't work.

It does work. I have tried it. Download it and test it for 7 days free of charge. I tested it on a 8900 as well as a 9000 on Vista.
You have to purchase the licence after 7 days.
I did not do this as dont pay for my data anyway.
Have fun. We dont know how long it will be availabe.

Thanks. Doesn't bother me too much if it only works on standard data plan, just wanted to make sure it worked. I'll try the trial and see what it is like'

Which version? I donwloaded version 1.0.2 for Mac and this does not have the tether option. What is the latest version for Mac, and where can I download it from?

You've got to create a dial-up account on a Mac. Windows has the connect to internet feature, desktop manager for mac doesn't.

Pretty sure Mac DM doesn't have that option. Like genetic said, create a dial up connection. APN = internet. Phone number = *99#

Heads up, just noticed that tether now has a beta for Mac. Look into it. they ran the Win version in beta for free untill the release.

I downloaded the trial on a 9520 today (for windows) and it still works (on Vodacom). The ZAR price on that is R377 odd.
Another app ive been looking at is mobishark but no luck as yet.

Lucas.. How has this been working for you? I have just downloaded it, but I am still nervous about paying extra for data...

I got it working! BUT, I had to put Vodacom in as the APN.
I wonder what my data usage will show...

It works, but will not use BIS . So yes you are going to pay extra for the data. Any app that requires you to activate APN settings, rest assured you will be paying for the data.

Anyway Blackberry Desktop App got the same functionality built in [i.e. to use your phone as a modem on your pc] , and it also does not use BIS ...but it's free , where this Tether app is like $50.

I believe it works with certain USA carriers [hence why it exists] with the BIS service, but it sure ain't working here.

Anybody had anymore success with this application ?
Mine says "failed to find an available port" I am on Vodacom
