Texting while driving, this has to stop

You know what, as much as you meant that as a humourous jibe, the sad reality IS that we're all far too inclined to do shit like this. And we all agree it's a menace and we shouldn't and WE don't do it ..and yet we see it every.damn.day.

Of course if we had visible, ACTUAL policing of our roads, this is something that we would hope to see less of. For my part I'm not about to hold my breath on that happening any time soon.

Correct.

So thousands of people (one in four according to the related article below, so hundreds of thousands) do this every single day (and I agree it's wrong and they shouldn't) but you decided to single out this poor girl and make a fuss and just to stick the knife in email every manager in country?

Maybe he tried his luck and she refused. I mean we all send emails while driving and visiting MyBB while driving.

It starts with us. If we don't do something about it, then nothing will ever be done. The pigs are obviously more interested in speeding tickets and planting drugs.

I would certainly have reported lots of people, but I drive alone almost all the time so capturing their offences would make me as reckless as they are.

So you're saying it's a BAD thing to take what I contend is a necessary step to get "this poor girl" to mend the error of her ways? Which "poor girl" should she get reprimanded by her management would hopefully take it on board and may even correct her behaviour for ALL the driving she does? Have you considered that she may go and tell her friends (more like whine about the unfairness, etcetera but I'll concede that that's an unfair characterisation of someone I know nothing about, other than that she's a menace on the road) and maybe, JUST maybe there may be enough of a seed planted in their heads that further corrective behaviour may get applied to more than just "this poor girl".

Look, it's shitty getting bust doing something wrong. But it has to start somewhere and, by her own actions, she got to volunteer. Also don't forget: actions have consequences; that you don't like them is something you should consider before you go off doing stupid things.

I wonder how the OP will feel if she loses her job? Which is a rather likely scenario....

I'll take a byte of that one: on the one hand we (only as a possibility) have someone who could lose a job, which affects only her (and yes, any dependents she may have), and not in a way that involves a morgue, ICU or permanent, life altering disability. Which is something that may well stick with her, or at least one can hope.

OTOH we have a car barreling along at 60-80 kph that slams into ..something: another car, a cyclist, a pedestrian, but bottom-line another person out there who really could have done with NOT being slammed into and killed, permanently disabled, etcetera. Not to mention the trauma their family, et al gets to go through.

Yea, I'm okay with that.

I wonder how she would feel if she killed a kid.

Look, all these what ifs are valid. I get that. But the fact is it is probable she will lose her job, while there is only a small statistical chance that these dire events predicted will ever come to pass.

I am not condoning her beahviour - but the OP has been saying there are consequences for our actions, and I am querying whether he considered the consequences of his actions on this young womens career and future.

Perhaps. But personally I do not believe I am entitled to teach her that lesson at the risk of her losing her job.
Apart from the road safety aspect, working for an insurance company and driving negligently is extremely poor. If I was a client of theirs, I would damn well want to know how I could trust them when they employ people like this. Just because she's pretty and a woman doesn't make it ok. I'm pretty sure that some here wouldn't be quite so sympathetic if it was a fat bloke.

Once again, you are weighing and comparing events with totally different probabilities of ever happening. But like I said, I would just like to know if you considered the fact that she is likley to get fired before you sent your email.

Sorry, but part of the reason this country is descending into anarchy is precisely because of this attitude.

By reporting her, YOU ARE NOT COSTING HER HER JOB. The fault LIES WITH HER. SHE IS COSTING HERSELF HER JOB by breaking the law in a branded vehicle.

Lead SA. Report this kind of thing. Let people know their wilful transgressions of the law get noticed and have consequences. God knows the police aren't doing it, so we need to.

I would have stated same if it was a guy.

Highly doubt she'll lose her job.

"I have this idiot staring at me. I'm worried that he might try something. Please wait outside by the office."
