Texting while driving, this has to stop

I really love how you simplify things. I could probably break into my neighbour's garage and steal his lawnmower without ever being caught. I could easily spraypaint nasty graffiti on someone's house or car and not get caught. I could walk up to a hobo and punch him in the face and nothing will happen because he will not know who I am and where I came from. All of that against the law, but I don't EVER do that. But if my phone vibrates, and there's no police car around, and traffic is not moving or about to move any moment, I WILL check what the message says.

Tell me, did you ever download an episode or series or movie NEVER shown on DSTV? How do you feel about people that download a pirated copy of Photoshop or MS Office? Anarchy?

Yes, I like to keep things simple. It helps people understand...

Fact is, we have a culture of lawlessness in South Africa. Look how people drive. Look at crime statistics. Look at corruption. What we are doing IS NOT WORKING. Time for a change? That change in my opinion is cracking down on crime in all its forms. Want to stop the carnage on the roads? ENSURE that laws (ALL LAWS) relating to road safety are enforced.

Precedent? Look at Rudy Giuliani's clean-up of New York.

So it's no longer a simple matter of crime = crime? Thought so.

Nah, most in his country follows Zipper's (their hero) mentality, thus it's only a crime when others do it. Think rape, corruption and unethical business practice and conflict of interest.

At the same time, ensure that ALL LAWS (not only relating to road safety) should be enforced. This includes the 'petty' crime of illegal copying and downloading, dropping your bubble gum in the street or wherever you are, throwing a cigarette butt out of the window, smoking cannabis , etc etc etc. Perhaps we can start a thread (or better, a sub-forum), where people post photos of other people commmitting crimes.

would you equate shoplifting with rape?
yeah. your comparison was daft

I did not equate anything with anything. ;) I was responding to Sinbad's 'But it's still against the law' when Devill said he will check his messages and text at a red traffic light. ;)

I normally hoot at people texting or on their phones while driving, now ill take pics and post it on here!! :D

But you yourself have just admitted to selective adherence to laws. Are we agreed on this point?

I wonder if this woman driver will ever face her accuser, or will our vigilante OP's anonymity remain behind the comfort of his zoom lens.

OP, did you lay a complaint with the SAPS?

Too many people with usernames starting with "S" arguing here so I have no idea what you stand point has been elsewhere in this thread but I give this particular statement a HUGE thumbs up! People cannot bitch about the more serious crime and law breakers when they break (what some refer to as) arbitrary laws on a daily basis. It is the daily breaking of these small laws that results in a slide. They all race through red robots so why shouldn't I. They all drive in the yellow line to avoid traffic jams, so why shouldn't I. I found a wallet, others would not bother to try and get it back to the owner so why should I... (the latter not so much breaking of laws but a slide in morals).

I do, however, disagree with it being solely the role of law enforcement to ensure we abide by the rules. Society should create an environment where people do not feel right about breaking them. People should "police" themselves! When your mate takes a call while driving, do you tell him off? No? Well then you are encouraging his law breaking. And yes, I do always ask if someone is driving and if they are I'll tell them I will call back. I do not want to be responsible for their death. THIS is what I was talking about with everyone taking responsibility.

Before you carry on with your hero worship of Synbad, have you missed the fact that he has himself just admitted to choosing which laws he adheres to. Or did you just choose to ignore this?

Ignore Sinbad, he plays the moral high horse card on the net while he drives around with his illegal HIDs and committing other traffic offenses that he thinks is ok.

LOL OP was also using his phone while driving to take the pictures. OP please send us your employer details so we can send them details of the crime you committed? :D:D:D

I think if you read you will see that I CLEARLY stated :

I have no idea what your stand point has been elsewhere in this thread but...

What you have pointed out, however, DOES NOT change the fact that I fully agree with what he said in the quoted post. I fail to see why what he has said elsewhere has any relevance or why it would indicate that I apparently hero worship him.

Wow... He said in the very first sentence of the OP that he was a passenger :wtf:
