I have seen many threads about people immigrating to other countries and having to deal with bureaucratic nonsense it still puzzles me to why so very few people don't consider South East Asian countries.

I have been working on and off in Thailand since 2019 and have learnt the ins and outs on how easy and affordable it is to come here.
I have also lived in London for more than 5 years, travelled to NY and LA, Hong Kong and other Middle eastern countries and still prefer Thailand over all of them for the simple fact that the Rand still goes a long way here.

If there are any questions or help that I can offer, please feel free to post here. I will try my best to give accurate insightful info.

Not everyone likes eastern culture.

I won't mind living in the Philippines. The government is just as backwards as us, but the people not so racist, violent and aggressive.... I guess depends also on which island you get stuck.

U cannot even compare the 2. You like coffee, Thailand has a massive coffee culture, much bigger than SA can ever dream

Loved the short time I was in Hong Kong what a beautiful place. That was prior to covid and all the protests.

A massive culture shock but WOW, would love to go back when things are more "normal"

Ppl dont know how expensive things are or how cheap things are here till you go there

No. I would like to know what about eastern culture is there not to like, thats all
Personally, I don't have an issue. But Eastern is much different to Western. Then there is also language. I prefer Eastern to Western. Unless I end up in New Zealand. But then hopefully I am in area that doesn't have any people.

I can agree with you about Hong Kong. It was CRAZY expensive.
But on the other hand again you dont know how expensive SA has became when you stay in Thailand.

Although, I guess one needs to (or at least personally) be in a place for 6-12 months to make a long term commitment.

For sure, The eastern culture is very interesting, but they accept any culture and celebrate all here.
There are many islands and provinces here where there are very few people and good quality of life.

oh 100% was just an observation. the whole grass isnt always greener thing. But seeing a number of other countries also helps you see what we have here in a better light sometimes on somethings...

Observation over dont wanna derail the thread :)

Oh, and then there is food. Not everyone likes noodles, fish and chicken, or whatever. I don't think food is something that will stop me from making a choice as I can adjust.

The grass is not greener, but what puts me off in SA is living in a prison and not knowing if by the end of the day you will be a victim of a horrendous crime. I absolutely love the Midlands. Wish it wasn't in SA.
