For giving us this wonderfully cheap and fast INTERNET !

Lov ya guys <3

I inherited a 10 GB account - what a pleasure! Afrihost did a very good thing here – let’s hope the business model works out for them.

Afrihost

The good.

Cheap internet.
IS fibre seems to be pretty well stacked up against SAIX, even gives me better pings for local games.
Support actually respond and they have a active members here on MyBB to interact with.

The bad.

12 Hour session limit.
Bandwith cap is a bit flimsy and can allow you to go over.
Over used bandwidth will be deducted from your next month.
The cancellation on the web panel does not work.

What afrihost needs to do to become better.

1. Work on that 12 hour session thing, I have no idea but the other isp's seems to have worked it out.
2.Change the terms and conditions on the packages to indicate that the cap is not instant and that it will deduct from the next month. We have no issue with this concept we just want it to be declared up front as it is not the norm.
3.Fix that damn cancellation on the web page.

^^ Iv seen a lot of complaints with this "12 hour session" and all - i for one am not affected by it.

What is the problem with having a 12hour session as apposed to a 24hour(?) ? Is it for servers or what? Just wondering..

It totally interrupts the connection. So, for example, if you are downloading a file when the disconnect happens, you lose all the progress you've made with that file. I haven't experienced it yet but others have. I think one guy got up to 90% or so on a big download then lost it all.

Apparently other ISPs do it but it's invisible to the user (IE it doesn't affect downloads etc)

Firstly it's damn annoying.

Secondly I believe it's against regulations set up by ICASA, hence it isn't common practice anymore.

yeah I agree I love afri-host Almost got a job with them so could be part of the wonderful team there :P but it did not work out for the best but happy in my job where I am at the moment

Download managers, how well do they work?
Not so well from the saix ftp server, too many disconnectins and your download will be corrupt when done.
Rapidshare and many other free file hosting websites, not at all unless you pay.
For battlefield, totally cannot resume that connection.
Having a skype convo... redial.
Streaming some video, gonna have to find your position again.
Sending an email, never seen a smtp server support resume.

Its almost like first world internet doesnt seem to get disconnected,or how would they live with all the above problems.

What about the ugly?

Contrary to the many negative posts here, I am quite happy with Afrihost.

I went over my bundle by about 100Mb or last month, as I was seeding Karmic, before I was capped. As far as I can tell, it's been deducted off my bandwidth this month.

I haven't had any of the issues that people seem to be having, maybe I am just lucky.
