That burning sensation

Hmm...nice article except for a glaring flaw. Musica.co.za provides encrypted WMA files (DoesntPlaysForSure or some such) that will not play on your iPod.
emusic and samp3 should be fine however

Well there is always download.com

http://music.download.com (over 75 thousand songs)

There are a lot of South African artists there (me included) OK it is mainly independent artists, but when you say you want to support local music, do you mean that you want to support people that make music, or only people that are signed to a label - There is no charge for downloads

There are a few other artists that are listing there music there, you might have heard of Bob Dylan for example, and also there are artist from all over the world, Africa included

You can also try www.mp3.com however they are not the force in independent music they used to be

Good point - and if its PFS it wont even play on the zune

I got a headache just from trying to read that article. What is it with the silly season and journalists?

emusic.com is known for their non DRM (Digital Rights Management) mp3's. IE you can copy it to your ipod, burn it to cd or listen on your pc, your right to choose unlike most of itunes music which is loaded with restrictions :)

Loaded with restrictions?

With fairplay you can also "copy it to your ipod, burn it to cd or listen on your pc". ;)

It's also one of the easiest DRMs to get around and is a pretty fair trade off considering the size of their catalogue.

Where does he get his emusic figures?

What data rate do they offer?

Now I am Ticked off

I have one song on www.download.com/dragonlogos

I wanted to check how it was doing... and for the last two days I have not be able, I keep getting 504 Gateway Timeout

" A gateway timeout occurred. The server is unreachable. Retry the request "

So today I decided to check it on a ' different ' network / ISP - and the site is there no problem

There is only one song there ' The Last Green Mile ' which is about Tele-coms in SA

Surely Big Brother is not blocking this Site
