The above ground pool thread

Probably not, but I am out.. have moved to a new property with an in ground pool..

While there's a size and variable depth advantage (I have two small kids), everything else is a disadvantage.. I have a leak..? Sorry pal, drain the pool, chip out gunite, fix the leak and add new gunite a week's worth of labour etc etc etc..

Your above ground pool springs a leak and you get a patch from brights for 200 bucks and Bob's your mother's brother..
Interesting to see you preferring the above ground pool

I reckon I'll buy another (if I there's a nice BF deal or some such going) once this one collapses.

OR visit Process Pipe in Montague Gardens and do what this guy did (as the liner is still looking great):

Pipe is cheap, it's just getting someone to design / 3d print the custom insert.

Don't get me wrong, I prefer the lower costs involved with the above ground pool.. other than that, it's great..

Am I the only one still going strong here?

I've got some rust on the horizontal poles now + the ladder. I just sprayed over both with some Rustoleum to extend their lifespan.

I think I've got another 2 years left then it's either time for a new pool OR I just replace with galvanized pipe / 3d print fittings so I can use the same T pieces.
Skipped last year due to fixing-garden-laying-slab-issues-with-builders.
Preparing to setup the pool again within the next week or 2.

Ok, so i moved recently and my old pool had 3 small holes in them. gave it to my inlaws. looking at buying a better bestway pool. was thinking the ones that are 1m deep that comes with a ladder.

But i first need to get the ground level and prepped for new pool. ground has bits and pieces of grass and roots. best ad=nd cheapest way in getting it done.

Hey all I'm looking for a corrugated vinyl lined pool. I see rain queen or something has but they are 16k for the smallest. Any other options?

Diameter for that price..?
0.8*3m sorry that's black pvc liner. And 11k 16k for blue vinyl

Maybe the pricing is pretty decent no idea to be honest.

Can I use normal pool cleaners with black pvc or rather "splurge" and get blue vinyl.

Any recommended pump plus filter?

Hmm.. not sure about other suppliers, but for context, I paid 8k on special 3 years ago for my standard vinyl pool at 4.2m diameter..

To my mind, don't think 16k is completely out of the ballpark..

Ah ok, thanks!

Seems like an above ground pool like this might be another option everything was closed for dec which was likely good as I have chance to ponder - yes pool but maybe something else.

Anyone have something like this with a nice trim? Im certain something like this should last a lifetime as well.

Definitely get the weir cut out.. it would provide better/more options in terms of automatic pool cleaners..
mmmm.... something to consider. If I do that though you need a bigger frame to hide all the extra goodies above ground.

Not rushing the pool though even if I had to wait a year whilst making my mind up.

Well, after a break last year due to the slab guys taking 2 months to do a 2 week job, followed by much procrastination, I finally have our one back up.

Made some changes - the main one being a proper smooth, flat surface (slab) instead of dodgy uneven paving.
I've also raised the filter and pump which seems to have helped the water pressure (I think). Definitely allowed me to shorten the pipes compared to keeping them on the ground.

And lots of patches. Our rubbish surface really messed up the liner.
And not overfilling it this time.

Will post pics if anyone's interested.

Busy with my above ground setup

What's that saying about a boer maak 'n plan. A solid week of uninterrupted 40º+ temps in December pushed me into action. R4200 as it stands there. Was a zinc water tank I had that had been replaced by JoJo tanks.

Bestway fast set 3m setup. New to the above ground pool movement.

Drain holes drilled in pump tub. Got a net and pool vacuum and threw in a floaty. Got water tested when I filled it at pool shop and just following what they tell me.

Eish, first leak. Handyman opened the stacked door onto the pool and created s small tiny leak. The 2 bestway patches that came with the pool held up for 3 days and this morning I saw thin stream of water push through the patch. Yet to find another solution as I don't have anything. Bought some more patches and tube of Bostic soft plastics glue but still have to use it.

Ideally should patch from the inside of the pool, not the outside.. you should also use two patches.. one patch big enough to cover the hole and the second big enough to over cover the first patch..

If you can find a vinyl cement suitable for underwater use, you wouldn't need to drain the pool down to repair from the inside..

Found a decent patch kit at a pool place in Wynberg if you're in the Cape. Otherwise duct tape kept my pool from leaking for like 2 months - and it wasn't a small hole. (turns out it sticks underwater. Still not convinced the patch kit is better, but at least the colour matches. Black tape in your pool does not look nice)

The kit instructions say you can stick inside or out. I have one patch outside and a few inside. Stuck them on with water in the pool. Messy but it worked. Took some getting used to.
