The age old question....Which phone?

I need some assitance pls. I can upgrade in a weeks time. I am on vodacom weekender at the moment (might upgrade to the bussiness talk OR migrate to Virgin)...

I would like the HTC touch dual but a lot of people have said that it's not worth getting. True or not and why...?

Just a note: If you are porting to Virgin, you can only do it when your contract is finished - NOT when you are due for an upgrade. Vodacom usually gives upgrades between month 20 and 22 of the 24 Month contract, so if you decide to move to Virgin you will have to wait a little longer.

Now, what do you want in a phone? What will you be using it for the most?
 
...am aware of waiting till contract is done yip.... but there is a way around it, to get a new virgin phone so long, should I choose to go to virgin :D

Well, obviously the usual uses... the odd call, sms and snap the odd pic here and there with some internet and maybe check up on some email....
 
Well, if you are not a "power" user...then your options are endless.

The touch IMO, sucks...why? No keyboard. I had mine for 2 days, and I couldn't bare to use the phone to sms or email people having to tap away at tiny keyboard keys. I also found the screen to be less sensitive, so you really had to Jab it.

Something like a TyTN II would be better if you were going windows mobile.

Sticking on the windows scene, I am interested in the New Samsung i780. I loved my previous blackjack, and this phone gives you the benefit of an always available keyboard and a touch screen!

I wouldn't stop without looking at the Nokia S60 devices. The N82 is a really nice device. Something has to be said for that 5MP camera with the Xenon flash...and I like the candy-bar form factor.

If size is a factor to you - I have not had a moments trouble with my Sony Ericsson W880i. It's a tiny phone, and can do everything - email, sms, interenet, music. The W890i is out now...which is even better. The bonus of going phone (as apposed to smartphone) is that the batterylife is a couple of days, instead of one day.

The iPhone is also due for release here soon (officially through Vodacom). Although more a lifestyle phone than a business phone - it's the "coolest" phone I've ever owned...and the only one that I've kept for longer than a month.
 
HTC touch has an under powered processor IMO, at 200mhtz it's not only under powered but dated too. N82 is a good choice yes but N95 8GB would be an even better option me thinks.

SE W960i out now too. That would be my choice of the SE handsets or a k850i...

You still got your Tytn II? I'm not enjoying mine much... Unresponsive and sluggish but I believe HTC are releasing the much anticipated drivers compatiable with the Qualcomm chipsets...

Yes, the N95 8GB would be 1st price was it not out of my price bracket.... and the N82

The touch got 200Mhz yes...the touch DUAL is 400mhz (is that still under powered?), which is the one Im leaning towards, seeing as I can organise it without a HUG pay-in... :D

I have the HTC Touch and have no problems with the 200Mhz power processor, it's how you manage your PC, ram and applications, it's just the lazy people that hate the touch and the dual unit is a much better unit but has a slight smaller screen then the touch. As for the sensitivity of the screen it can be set the way you want it.

The pay-in is still high on the dual unit. I should have waited for the dual ,but loving my touch atm.:)

My bad, I thought the touch and dual touch were the same thing, 400mhtz is decent enough provided HTC have supplied adequate drivers for the Qualcomm chipset if that's the chipset the dual touch is using..

There has been a fair share of controversy surrounding HTC's lack of adequate driver supporting the Ati graphics cards and Qualcomm 720 chipset resulting in a handset that is both unresponsive and sluggish in performance...

For this reason and this reason alone I wouldn't buy an HTC. Having said that I own the Tytn II but for day to day ease of use and superior performance I use my Nokia N95...

IMO the Nokia is as efficient as the HTC when it comes to browsing the net, DL emails, opening word docs, PowerPoint presentations, sending and receiving sms and making calls...

whats the vodacom number too check when u due for an upgrade?
 
i have a w960 through mtn, loving it, not gonna lie a find it a bit slow *sometimes* though :/ ....i do know that vodacom charge a ridiculous pay in for it though...
