I’m into astrophotography rather than visual astronomy (my eyes are ****).

Been building my rig for a few years and recently completed it. Came to the realisation that carrying 40kg around isn’t happening and I need a backyard observatory. Led me down the path of roll-off roof and dome observatories and the cost of importing vs building locally. So it’s going to take six months.

Decided to get a Seestar S50 so long.

Will do a test alt-az tonight. Then switch to eq tomorrow.

Indeed. Will post the Seestar’s stacked image and my attempt with Siril later. Next step is to buy Pixinsight and the Rcastro plugins but that’s R10k! But it really looks better so a must have.

Paid $479 (including a $20 voucher valid on the seestar site, not valid on the zwo site) and 15% VAT. Also free shipping with DHL.

Fact is you don’t need local warranty, ZWO is rock solid stuff.

If you get into post processing then this is a new hobby for life. Justified? Yes.

Buying from them direct still has warranty but you just need to pay for the shipping back to them which is not a big deal from the first world

I tried a bit of astro photography years ago with a big ol reflector telescope and a dslr, but no tracking or anything so results were disappointing. Max exposure like 30 seconds and then you get streaks...
 
I wonder if they'll offer some kind of add on to increase the focal length at some point. 250 is too small for planets
 
Consider what would happen if you simply stood under the clear blue sky and the warm sun without any agenda. It may feel weird at first if you haven't done this before. But when you allow yourself to be immersed in this you will realise that it is the most liberating thing you can do.
