south african tourism should put big banner boards outside townships.

"Likely to get hijacked, robbed, raped, sodomized if entering this area at night"

or maybe they could even spin this and make some money out of it.

"Feel the terror! Drive through our townships at night and see if you make it out alive! - only R500 per vehicle *Summer Special*"

In this case the hubby can't be ruled out just yet. He may be a business man but maybe the biz wasn't doing so well and he needed the money. Brett Kebble was rich on the surface but deep down he was in real financial trouble.
 
Good lord if the husband is totally innocent - forgive our misgivings.

This couple was either incredible naive (having lived in a luxurious and first world bubble) and having been encouraged by celebrity Jamie to visit this place and truelly and innocently after a few drinks possibly, made a terrible spontane decision, or the husband orchestrated this.

Crime is rife and deadly in this country - advising/convincing people otherwise is delusional and dangerous.

Seems you did not read the story. The couple was NOT in Gugulethu between 19:00 and 23:00. They dined in Somerset West and drove back to the hotel and at around 23:00, decided to go to Mzoli's.

That is a baseless statement to throw around. Only the SAPS will know if they are investigating this angle.
 
I have been following this story closely.. at first my view was the same as everyone... "they stupid", "they shouldn't have" yada yada... but I changed my view and wrote a blog entry about it and how we as South Africans just "got used to it". Time to wake up SA...
 
Not sure if your intention was to advertise your blog, but thats a pretty lame way to go abt it

with the Hawks being brought in it seems South Africa are trying to make a statement about fighting crime in South Africa especially where tourists are involved and especially now after the world cup as all eyes are on us still. Had this been a normal Joe from South Africa and not so high profile would the Hawks have been called in?
 
@FortySeven, you obviously haven't travelled abroad have you? At least not to anywhere other than safe little havens like CCTV infested Europe etc.

If only normal Joes got the same sort of media coverage. If the international & local press weren't making such a fuss about it it would probably slide by the wayside.
 
who is to say that the taxi driver was maybe an illegal taxi driver, we now know according to reports that the vehicle was suspect. wonder what his story is?

Fudzy.. I have travelled quite extensively. I am not saying other places are better / worse than ours and all countries have their problems. Cape Town has been labeled the murder capital of the world before.

But the fact is very much that we are so blaze about crime. There is nothing more special about this one. People are murdered maimed every day. I just wish as South Africans we all realize that we can change it, we are the country. I have been a victim of crime myself on several occasions and touch wood thus far I haven't been seriously injured.
