The Anni Dewani Murder Case

The media gets their info from SAPS's official channels, or an informant within SAPS. SAPS are often the ones giving out erroneous information.
This one sounds like hearsay & third hand accounts of rumoured SAPS official channels.

Based on ..... ?

What 'situation'?

On how SA dailies report. They'll reprint the same error from an original report all week & then skip to the next one without explaining why the bullets go from 3 to 1. Hell even the weeklies repeated the Squires error for months.

And blu you keep asking people to back up their claims while we're all just crack internet detectives speculating wildly including yourself. Some more wild than others. The husband taking a contract on his wife speculation is the most plausible:)

You wouldn't call a standoff between a single female and two (or three) violent thugs a situation ? I would !

Sigh. Some people forget what they posted before and then it becomes so muddled after a while :)

You said they could have killed her cos she could identify them.
I then said that is not a good reason cos the husband can also identify them.
You then said the situation changed when they shoved him out of the vehicle becauese there was a standoff between the female victim and the perps.
I now say the situation has not changed. REMEMBER WE ARE DISCUSSING THEM KILLING HER COS SHE CAN ID THEM. The situation did not change IN THAT REGARD, cos the husband can still ID them.

Hope you follow my reasoning now.

Based on the fact that there are conflicting reports from the media.

As I said before, the media gets the info from SAPS, so how on earth can you blame them ?

because they should double check their sources...If the media are all getting from the same SAPS guys, surely there would not be conflicting results.
Some sources you trust, some you dont. And surely you check facts....yeah, i do blame them...
if they were all spouting the same thing, then thats a different story

I did not ask people to back up their claims.

I ask people for reasons as to why they make blanket statements.

In other words, is is rather frustrating reading "the husband did it", when the poster does not bother to give HER / HIS PERSONAL interpretation of the facts avaialble. It makes for better reading and better debate to find out how another person came to a particular conclusion.

You erroneously assume SAPS do not give out different versions as time goes by and as they themselves get more info.

You need to learn more about them. It's a joke at best.

The SAPS would not be able to give out information they don't have. Their initial public statements are usually very sketchy on details until more information becomes available.
The media, through their dubious sources fill out the gaps ...hence the facts seem to keep changing every day.

I really would not know that for a fact. You seem to be quite sure of it.

Most people here are only too happy to lap up any negative reporting on the ANC/government/ANCYL, etc. It makes me wonder why they do not query the accuracy of those stories with the same vigour.

A second man has been arrested in connection with the weekend murder of a honeymooning tourist, National Police Commissioner Bheki Cele said on Thursday.

Addressing journalists in Cape Town he said police might arrest "one or two more" as investigations continued.

Cele was speaking shortly after 26-year-old Xolile Mngeni of Khayelitsha appeared in the Wynberg Regional Court on charges of murder and robbery with aggravating circumstances.

Cele said the second person arrested was also a 26-year-old male from Khayelitsha.

Tourist Anni Dewani was shot dead after being hijacked in Gugulethu on Saturday night. Her husband, Shrien, was released unharmed.

Asked why Dewani's husband had been allowed to leave South Africa so soon after the killing he said : "He's not a suspect so we can't hold him against his will if he wants to go."

However the South African and United Kingdom police worked very closely, Cele said.

"It would not be a problem whatsoever working with them if we want to pursue (sic)."

Cele said police had recovered two cellphones, a bangle and watch that linked the apparent hijacking to the two men already arrested.

He said the post mortem had not indicated sexual assault. - Sapa

Surely if they give out different versions based on time, then all publications would still have the same facts at the same time?

this doesnt seem to be the case

You're mixing different discussions from different days and I'm the one that is muddled ? Eish !

In any event, the ID discussion is far more complicated than what you make out - for example, the husband may only have seen them in the dark, whereas she may have seen them in full light - a major difference that could have caused them to kill her. For example she could have noticed a scar or tattoo, and could have commented on that.

Something else could also have happened after the husband was kicked out - for example her making a derogatory remark about someone's manhood (when he dropped his pants) could have resulted in her being shot. Anything could set these guys off.

Another issue : the Police have arrested the driver - maybe they met the driver after the husband had been thrown out. That would have sealed her fate, as she would then have known about the involvement of the driver.

Etc, etc, etc, one could speculate ad infinitum.
