The Antenna Waiting Area

While we are all waiting here, has anyone ever thought of making his own grid antenna ? All you need to do is get Matlab to plot x^2 - 1/2 on paper, bend a pieces of wire in these shapes and then solder or weld it all together. The rest is must like a cantenna, except much better.
 
While these antenna are made for the 2.5 GHz spectrum this is the what they are optimized for however the will work from about 2.3 to 2.8.

no pricing information has reached me, why even bother emailing these people. i mailed fastcomm 2 months ago for a request to place an order for the patch antenna, i only hear back from them today

sucks royal ass

everyone is only here to make a quick buck, no wonder they have nowire and ods and god knows who else in the deal with them
 
One of my Beta Testers made some inquiries at NoWire and they sent him a quote for R670 (I think) for this antenna:

question: I still have my antenna from the days I was with MegaWAN *spit*

it's a HUGE grid antenna hooked up to a pc in my roof

would this work for the MyWireless modem as well? it has a pigtail on et al.

hark! MegaWAN was good for SOMETHING! *spit again* :)

another question, I suppose I need to put this thing outside on the wall? complex management would lynch me for that! the antenna from fastcomm as at least a tad more aesthetically pleasing and can go INSIDE my study.

Pigtails are not supplied with the antenna.
In this case it was R90 extra for the pigtail.

ProASM,

I have found that the pigtails dont fint nicely into the units they plug in but almost just hang in there ? Is Sentech going to release any form of official pigtail.

Dean, Sentech is not involved in antenna or pigtails, as far as I know Fastcomm have ordered connectors but that needs following up.
Yes I also found that the connector on the pigtail is a little dicey thats why we here now make our own using an MCX connector and it is 100% better, it fits tight in that to get it out, you need to hold the modem firmly in one hand and yank with the other [:)]

How exactly do you make this connection, i see the MCX male and female connectors are relativly inexpensive, will it be possible to share how you made your connector so i can try too :)
 
hmmm, if i wanna make a cantenna is it essential to use N type connectors on the can side, or could i just use mcx male and female connectors on the can ??? N Type seem to be quite expensive while the mcx connectors are extremely cheap.
 
noone there is no nead to make comments like you have, as you can see my business has been around for over 5 years and making a quick buck is not my idea of customer service.[:(!]

Silver, the type of connector you use depends on the cable run.
If you are going to have your Cantenna say not further than 3 meters then use MCX both ends and as well as on your antenna.
If however you want to go further, then yes I would suggest N-Type as then you will need to go to a lower loss cable like RG214 or equivalent.

The best thing to use inside a can, is an N-type female "base mount" connector, that you solder a piece of wire to. Then it follows naturally that you will need an N-male on the other end of your pigtail to connect it to.

The n-types aren't too expensive. Plus it's a pretty much standard connector that's used for connecting to high-end antennae and dishes.

An MCX connector is miniature. I wouldn't even dream of trying to stick an MCX into a can.

I payed a visit to webb and have a bag full of MCX female connectors, they are not quite the same as Pro's but similar, i will be trying to get these things to fit as best as i can over the weekend.

Pro, my plan is to keep the antenna cable extremely short and use my ethernet cable to to do long distance, my modem will more than likely be parking of in the roof somewhere or stuck to the wall on the inside of a window.
