Yesterday night I was listening to a podcast and the people were talking about tablets. Then went on about all the things the ipad is missing but all the other tablets have, like camera, the ability to phone and so on.

The thing is Apple made the tablet mainstream. Before Apple there were some tablets on the market, but it never caught on, much like the smartphone. Before the iPhone, there was some smartphones on the market (I had a number of HTC's), but it wasn't mainstream. The Apple came, brought an amazing product and changed the specific industry. They have the vision and know what the consumer wants before the consumer knows it.
Sure, the iPad has it flaws, but still, it was the device that got the tablet ball rolling. iPad 2.0 will have all the features and more than the competitors, I am sure of that.

I am not a Apple fan-boy, well, not entirely. Apple just deserve the credit for an amazing product that changed everything about tablets. Ranting about the features the ipad don't have is pointless, because before the ipad, there was no similar product on the market. the compertitors can now go and look at the ipad, take all the features put it in their products add some extras and sell that. Apple had no product to look at... so come on, give Apple the credit they deserve.

I hate Apple. They only thing they're good at is making money by purposely bringing out devices that lack features so they can bring out a new version later, which of course all the iSheep will flock to and empty their wallets for. Screw them.

The iPad has a fantastic screen, the IPS is so contrasty and the colours stay accurate and stable on all viewing angles compared to laptop screens.
The battery life is phenomenal. The device feels extremely fast.

The two things that left an impression on me were the screen and the battery life. Great screen, great battery life. That's why people are buying the iPad.

This is what iTards actually believe.

If anything made smartphones "catch on", it was Nokia's Symbian S60, and even that was by no means the first smartphone, or the first smartphone OS, or anything.

But like you said, credit where it's due, Apple's marketing dept does have some crazy hypnotic powers. Other people call it the "reality distortion field", I call it the "Paris Hilton effect", as in something being hugely famous just for being famous, and actually contributing little to nothing.

shame. Its sad to see people so seeped in their own ignorance and blind hatred that they cannot seem to ever admit that the things they do not like have merit.
Get over yourself. Your opinion of Apple is just that. Your own poor p!sswilly opinion.

If you don't like apple, fine, move along and go add value where you can (if you can) instead of spewing your mindless prejudice where its not wanted.

Yeah, I'm not sure if you know what prejudice means, but I'll help you. Educating people by telling them the real facts, is not it. Actually what you're doing is much closer. (You know, the whole insulting people when they tell you something you don't want to hear.)

So what exactly did you tell me that I did not want to hear? hmm? That apples marketing division have crazy hypnotic powers?
Oh, and calling people itards must be a term of endearment.

Move along troll....

Yeah focus on the tongue-in cheek part not the actual point I made about Symbian being much more mainstream.

The later part was meant to show how people just believe what they want, believe me I'd be saying the same if the fanboys were constantly making stuff up about Android, or Windows or Nokia or HTC or whatever other OS or device as well. Thing is, they normally tend to have a better perspective.

Apple has the best marketing department in the world.

Not just marketing, but that is a start...

That is your personal feeling/opinion. What products do you buy then? Why don't people slash the samsung tablet for its cons?

iPhone wasn't the first smartphone, I agree. But the point where sales took off, is the iPhone.

That is the thing, I am not a fan boy. I also agree that apple may sometimes deliberately not include a feature in the first product, but then, a couple of months later launch a version 2 with the "missing" features.
When you talk to people on the street about a smartphone, they will think iphone, not some nokia or android... that is just the way it is. iPhone maybe isn't the best phone out there, but it is the most "popular" and most known. And it is good, better than 99% of the phones out there.

The OP is spot-on. You may not like Apple, you may even hate Apple, but thanks to Apple everyone will soon have a wide choice of decent tablets to choose from - in whatever OS flavour of your liking.

Thanks, that is my point.

The same applies for the all-in-one pc. There were non one the market 15 years ago, and now every manufacturer makes one.

Would android have existed if it was not for the iphone? I cannot remember if android was mentioned before the iphone launch?

Im sure they do. But they would usually not leave out huge things that all the competition offers. The other difference is people who buy Samsung products don't get all angry and defensive and cause you to start pointing & laughing at them which causes them to call you a troll. I'm sure if you read reviews etc. you will find the Galaxy tab has its problems.

Definitely not, for 2 main reasons. If you're honest with yourself and think back, you will see practically everyone you knew had Nokia S60 phones long before the iphone even existed. Companies gave them to people like they do now with Blackberries. 2nd, The first iphone can barely be called a phone and not a smartphone at all. This is an opinion yes, but shared by many other people. That thing couldnt even forward SMS's, copy & paste, use Bluetooth for anything other than headsets, all the apps had to be "approved" receive or send MMS, and didn't work on 3G networks. Fair enough but then to sell it for such ridiculous amounts? All the Nokia's, Sony Ericssons etc .which were the standard back then supported all those things and cost far less.

They have improved much since then but they have never really revolutionised anything, its either small steps or things that have been around since forever and they just give it a new name. I actually would have seriously considered buying one of the new phones if it was maybe half the price, and you didn't have to use that infernal itunes.

I agree that apple fan-boys are irritating and when someone give criticism, just take it, don't go and defend something you know is not true...

I never had a nokia s60, I don't even know what it looks like (will google it now).

1. Are you serious?????? 15 years ago is 1995, I've had PC's since 1988, and got my first one with Windows in 1992. By 1995 we were already using Windows 95. And again, by no means the first

2. Um...yes. Yes it would. Not that it has anyhting to do with anything, but the iphone came out in 2007, Google bought Android in 2005 already to start development

1. Talking about iMac not PCs in general.

2. Cool, I didn't know, that is why I asked.

HUH???? Are you for real???? Symbian S60 is the most dominant smartphone OS in the world, ring any bells? Pretty much every high-end Nokia phone in the last 6 or 7 years used it, they are only replacing it now.. Seriously, the world has existed long before 5 years ago man. But yes it's true many people used them and didnt even know what OS it was.

Never liked nokia, so never used it. As simple as that, just like you don't like apple (I presume, can be wrong).

Ok, let me change smartphone to touchscreen phone (with apps).
