The Audi R8 Thread

The £520k ABT XGT is an Audi R8 racecar for the road

Limited to 99 units, this hardcore R8 really can be used for mundane activities

ABT has announced a new version of its R8 LMS GT2 and it’s absolutely ludicrous. It's called the ‘XGT’, it's restricted to 99 units, and almost hilariously it's road-legal.

So, while it gets substantially less boot space than, say, a regular R8, it does get that car's really rather substantial V10, here sending 640bhp to the rear wheels through a seven-speed transmission. A set of forged alloys are wrapped in road-going Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tyres, too.

Weight comes in at around 1,400kg - less than an Audi RS3 - and it's equipped with dual-adjustable suspension and modified springs, which means owners have more wiggle room setting it up for the Ikea run.

The XGT's top speed depends on the car's rear wing setting, but ABT quotes a maximum of 192mph.

A rally-bred V8 Audi R8 has just come up for sale

Fancy a Lamborghini Huracán Sterrato or a Porsche 911 Dakar, but don’t want to pay the extortionate sums? Here’s your answer

We’ve seen several great motoring revivals this year, and a return to form for safari supercars has been one of the best. But while the Lamborghini Huracán Sterrato and the Porsche 911 Dakar are great in their own right, they’re not what you’d call… affordable.

Happily, a knight in grubby armour has appeared by way of this V8-powered 2014 Audi R8 which, having been kept in factory spec until March of this year, has undergone a complete revamp to add some light modifications to give it a new lease of life off the beaten track.

A two-inch lift kit has been paired with 5mm thick skid plates, a front nudge bar with Baja LED lighting and an aluminium roof rack to provide more welly. So much so it could probably usurp Arnie as the world’s finest Predator catcher.

Otherwise, most of the bodywork still looks noticeably R8. Its seller has even ditched the rear bumper completely, which seems to be the norm with modified R8s (and Huracáns) these days and leaves the stainless steel exhaust exposed.
