The Audi Thread

Definitely agreed on these points. I love the C-Class interior, except for the stick-on display. Would have looked way better to integrate it into the dash.

I dig Audi, though, so will always give their cars a shot.

Does the Merc's screen pop up like the newer Audis? Or is it more fixed?

I don't like the A4/A5 in-dash screen at all, but I guess there's not much else besides a pop-up.

Nope, it's stuck to the top of the dash, like an ipad on a holder. Looks really crap

I actually agree on those points. Love the A3's, excellent vehicles.

I wasn't a fan of the B6 at all, but I did like the B7, especially the DTM edition.

Same. Love the DTM.

/glares at PP...

It's fixed as far as I understand.

Second...

What was before that?

Hmm, yeah I suppose. Meant more as a separate model, but the cars are practically identical.

Even if they look "identical" and even if they were both called 2-series, 2 separately designed cars still means it is their second "modern foray into that class"... Just saying.

Also, Audi does have a 2 door coupe, of similar size... Currently they are on their third "modern foray into that class".

Yes, I agreed with you.

Which Audi competes with the 2 series?

TT is a small 2 door coupe priced from R458k.

2-series is a small 2 door coupe, priced from R411k.

Hmm, yeah. Z4 fits better, IMO.

Although it's more expensive and doesn't come in coupe form, I don't think. The latest one, anyway. Previous ones had the M, which was coupe IIRC.

So if the 2 is BMW's answer for the TT, then Audi doesn't really have an answer for the Z4.

*edit*

I see the new TT's gonna be priced at R558k...

TT is sorta in the middle of the 2-series and Z4. The lower end models compete with the 2-series. TT RS competes with Z4. In my opinion...

Almost every way. Lower quality 'leather' than the previous model, lower quality dash material, less metal, lots of faux metal coated plastic.

Generally much more, cheaper plastic, than the 8P. IMO.

My ex had an older A3 which I would drive around a lot. If I compare it to my new A3, the quality is better for me...feels more solid. What I am glad about is that they removed to glossy/shiny plastics in the new model as it got scratched easily. Also, they got rid of the silly clip in the centre arm rest that had a tendency of breaking.

Can't comment on the leather. Mine arrived in fabric and it was upholstered in leather locally. The leather I got is more "thick and rough and matt" compared to the standard Audi, BMW, Merc leather that I remember when I test drove the cars.

Hi all.

The Mrs drives an Audi a4 2012 2.0tdi.

Took It in for the 75k km service today and had the following issues and not sure if it's a true response:

When I drive I always adjust the rear view mirror. When I do, the wipers go on. Technicians told my wife it's normal and the wipers are sensitive to vibrations. Its only done this since sometime between the 60k km service and this service - not before. Can the response from the techie be true?

Also, when turning the steering wheel a few rotations sometimes results in subtle volume increase in the sound system. Normal too?

Last question is on the maintenance plan. Can it be extended beyond R100k km and is it worth it? Wife drives about R120km a day so that contributes to the high mileage.

TIA
