The Audi Thread

Hmmmm I like it. BMW like central column angled away from the driver holding the volume knob, Passat like air vents, and one of those nice fat gear levers.

Possibly linked to the park brake? That was my initial thought.
It supposedly uses the new 9 speed auto, so could well be that they changed a few things around, like put it in Neutral and turn on the park brake and it sets it to P?

Whoa slow down - I didn't say it was rubbish and said I'd choose it.

Maybe some are more sensitive to lag than others? The 3 DSGs I've driven, I have initial lag on pull off only. It's not a one off thing that I am the only one that feels it either - just Google DSG lag and there are 1000's. In the end the driver compensates after a while of driving, but it's there.

Manual mode that doe everything automatically isn't really manual - or am I wrong? It over rides and automatically changes for you.

VWSA advanced driving - DSG is often in the wrong gear when coming out a corner where as the manual is - well - where you want it ie more control.

I could go the other way and ask why manufactures even bother with manuals if the DSG is the best thing ever ?

EDIT : Plenty of discussions about the lag. Here's a local where they just learned to live it, like I said http://www.audiclubsa.org.za/cgi-bin/yabb25/YaBB.pl?num=1358346708

Same club with most saying manual is the more exciting drive http://www.audiclubsa.org.za/cgi-bin/yabb25/YaBB.pl?num=1385014810/0

*Troll alert" - umm, you should try the ZF auto box of the BMW in the M235i for lag-free acceleration...

Love these pre facelift Q5s. What aren't you happy with?

Is something like this below the door fixable? Can they build it up so that it's cosmetically near perfect? Not like a scratch.

Time to upgrade the bike now :p

I'm checking the tyre pressures on my A3, and the spare wheel (Marie biscuit type) says 60psi which is about 4.1 bar.

Do these marie biscuit spare wheels require such high tyre pressure? I'm nervous to make it so high!

Seems Audi is ok with that, the sticker inside your door also list the presure and it state 4.2.

Not really unhappy, more like "would have preferred". At the time though Q5's were extremely hard to come by, so I decided to pull the trigger on this one.

I would have preferred a Tip-tronic for the Gauteng traffic and then also would have preferred the 3.0 TDi.

Overall though it was a good buy value wise with the KM's and balance of Freeway plan. Got the panoramic sunroof that wasn't a requirement, but now it is. I'm happy, but had to settle... if you know what I mean.

Have a clear idea now though as to what will be next.

Any reason it was a nightmare?

I'm guessing I had everything go wrong that could have with a private sale. The guys from Wesbank even mentioned that they had never had so many things go wrong.

It started though and hinged on the most dishonest and untrustworthy seller that anyone might have the displeasure of ever dealing with.

It is a long and lengthy story, but probably should be recounted as a warning for others.

I will do that some other time though, as there might very well be some legal proceedings in the offing soon between me and the seller.

It's a doozie though, that much is certain.

Saw a new S3 sedan at Midvaal 400m drags this weekend. Awesome car, but his times were less than impressive, Runnig low to mid 14's.

Anyone saw the last episode of Fifth Gear? I think it is episode 5 in series 24, Jonny Smith races against "Robo" Audi on Ascari. Essentially two similar RS7s however the one is completely autonomous and they claim this technology will be in the next A8. Pretty impressive to see.
