I believe they replace the entire unit in true stealership fashion. The part probably cost R100. Did they give you the faulty part?
Mechatronics units are repairable and if memory serves it's around R8k from people who can do it.There is no cheap cheap mechatronics fix that I know of.

I think it's very much relative. Around R8k after around 100,000km on a vehicle that cost around R500,000 new seems reasonable.Yep, depends what is needed, far cheaper than replacement gearbox but far from 'cheap'.
As far as I understand the limits of servicing/repairing them is replacing oil seals or solenoids. There is no cheap cheap mechatronics fix that I know of.
It sucks that your holiday had a heavy mood hanging over it in terms of a sick car, but the outcome seems rather good, all things considered. R16k is a pill I would gladly swallow when faced with the other, scarier amount.Sorry for the late reply.
The holiday was overshadowed by the looming 76k repair bill waiting for me at home but I did my best not to think about it. We got back from holiday on the Tuesday and Morne called me later that afternoon with awesome news. Audi SA picked up the tab for the parts and I had to pay 16k, mostly for labor and some consumables for the gearbox oil change. 16k is still a lot of money but I'd take it any time over 76k + labor.
Huge shout out to Morne from Audi East Rand and Audi SA. As and when I upgrade my A7 there is nowhere else I would go.
A7 is so gangster but no avant though. It sucks that your holiday had a heavy mood hanging over it in terms of a sick car, but the outcome seems rather good, all things considered. R16k is a pill I would gladly swallow when faced with the other, scarier amount.
It sounds like you have a good guy on the inside which is always a good thing to have. And you know the only way up from the A7 is an RS7, right?
PS: You owe us some pics of your ride. Told my wife that my next Audi will most definitely be an A7. The first gen ones have the most handsome lines on any car out there.
The A6 Avant is also such a looker. But my A4 Avant has scratched the Wagon itch, so now the allure of a sportback/liftback is growing ever largerA7 is so gangster but no avant though.
so I have to settle for an A6 like this:
Avant is life don’t come here with this midlife crisis ballie hatchback nonsense! The A6 Avant is also such a looker. But my A4 Avant has scratched the Wagon itch, so now the allure of a sportback/liftback is growing ever larger

Gotta have an Audi companion for the dad wagon for when the time callsAvant is life don’t come here with this midlife crisis ballie hatchback nonsense!

I have heard that even just the brake rotors and pads for all four corners on the RS7 are deep into the five-figure, basically approaching the six-figure territory if done through the dealer, which is nuts. And you are lucky to get 60k km out of a setMyBB
With regards to upgrading, it will probably be a new A7. I would love a RS7 but my bank balance would hate me with a passion.
Carbon fibre rotors?I have heard that even just the brake rotors and pads for all four corners on the RS7 are deep into the five-figure, basically approaching the six-figure territory if done through the dealer, which is nuts. And you are lucky to get 60k km out of a set![]()
I think just normal steel ones, but they are scalloped so that probably drives the price up. I think the Performance Package includes the Carbon Ceramic ones as stock. Would need to double check my facts though.Carbon fibre rotors?
I stand to be corrected but arent these disc more proned to shatter than the normal steel ones, I know they provide about 50% less weight and gives you less unsprung mass. I think ceramis are best for the track on normal road usage steel are fine unless you are doing crazy speeds and constantly slowing down for right lane hoggersI think just normal steel ones, but they are scalloped so that probably drives the price up. Europrice will sell you a set that will cost you a cool R550k: https://europrice.us/ceramic-brake-package-rs7
Clean example, but it's a pity that it's not Quattro so it has the crappy Multitronic transmission. If the engine hasn't been opened then it probably needs the oil pump seen to as a form of preventative maintenance as well.Check the kilos, all things considered price is not too absurd. Final year B7.
Was thinking the exact samt thing these engines are prone to oil pump failure.Clean example, but it's a pity that it's not Quattro so it has the crappy Multitronic transmission. It's what killed my engine. The balance shafts seized which caused the teeth on the sprocket to shear off, then sent all that lovely metallic debris through the engine and cooked the head and cams. Was thinking the exact samt thing these engines are prone to oil pump failure.
