The Audi Thread

So my family fell in love with the A4 2.0 Auto (I did as well) and now I need to justify why I'm not going to buy it based on it having a multitronic gear-box.

Please help.

Whats wrong with a multitronic gear-box?

Nothing wrong with the multitronic gearbox per se, but in the Audi, they need to be replaced somewhere between 120,000km - 150,000 km. You can pretty much set your clock to that - call a few Audi dealerships, ask them if you need more concrete evidence. I speak to and know many used car dealerships (I work in the automotive trade) and this came up the other day in conversation. Once it's replaced, you're good for another ±120,000km...

As much as I love the DTM's they are simply not worth the price. You can get a better spec'd S-Line for less, even if you buy the DTM body kit afterwards

I was in goldwagen once getting some parts and an audi driver was crying at the counter when he heard how much Audi gear box oil cost and that there was no generic available. Was going to cost him thousands to just replace the oil after some minor work.

Haha, playing the waiting game, and being torn between just accepting what I have, because I love it! Hard to find a 2.0T that has what I want, particularly an '07 one.

I call BS, vw is not in the business of making oil, they sell rebranded oil which meets their specs I assume. Their automatic gearboxes are quite finicky wrt oil but if you google you will find high spec replacements for the gold & diamond infused oil vw sells you.

I've owned audi, merc and bmw, all s/h high mileage cars as I like doing the odd bit of simple diy and arent scared of it at all. I dont have a full workshop or a massive toolkit, just, you know, stuff a bloke should know.

In my humblest of experiences a car is a car is a car. Once it is 3rd or 4th owner its a lot more important to know if the guy before you used a vicegrip instead of a spanner, than what badge is on the bonnet.

Currently happily running a 200,000km+ audi b5 s4, and replaced both intercoolers last month after a very minor pavement judging mistake on my part. Job was about 2 hours and did it with some simple tools.

The car itself, in terms of upkeep, is the same as the ones before it..they all required some maintenance. And if I didnt do the maintenance, then they would also breakdown.

Once someone invents a car that isnt a mechanical item, then the situation may change, but for now, 10yr+ cars are all the same to me...find out the history as a priority

Tested a B7 2.0 T Quattro today... 170kW. Sportline and everything I wanted, pity about the higher than desired mileage (127,000km) and lack of arm rest. Interior was a bit tatty too. And a smoker. :(

I nearly bit on an A7 2 weeks back. Low mileage 2012 model. They wanted 426k for it though and I decided I was not spending so much on a car. But OMG was it sooooo sexy.

Tested drove a 2012 A6 2.0T about 3 weeks back. 40k on the clock and wanting R300k for it. Mine is a 2007 A6 and just rolled over to 175k so been mulling over a replacement.
I was honestly disappointed in this model 5 years newer than mine.
1. No bose sound. WTF.
2. Fuel consumption in this 2.0L was equal to mine and mine is a 3.2. Was prepared to do away with the V6 roar for lower consumption and was disappointed to see hardly any difference. It did have good pull though.
3. No electric seats.
4. Not Quattro (biggie!)

Said to the dude I wanted an upgrade and only prepared to go for a newer model that matched my current specs or beat them. Not heard back from them. Sigh.

Perhaps a good thing. Even though I have high mileage, my baby still drives like new. Just being paranoid I suppose.

Would you just hurry up and buy something already!
