Yeah, I had a B7 2.0T about 8 years ago but bought a house and had a kid and crapped myself so I sold it and downgraded, should never have!! Got a Renault which I hated and then a good mate of mine immigrated to OZ so he sold me his A4, also for R120k which at the time was well below book!! But by the time I had finished toing and froing I had lost enough money to have negated the benefits of downgrading in the 1st place!!!
I've posted pics of her before and I'm gonna again...

Ah yes, those kinds of issues only an owner would know about. It says a lot that you are so quick to get anything sorted that might not be 100%.
On the topic of those small scratches etc, I know of a detailer in PTA who does excellent work. Does both private clients, and gets called in by Mercedes Wonderboom to do details on their high end models (I see he recently did a C63 for the dealer) so that should speak a lot about the quality as well. Not cheap, but I'd say about 1.5 - 2.0 depending on what is done, and I see he has a 15% off special ATM. Might be worth checking out?

Audi's are bullet proof bro...
My 2004 Multitronic A4 has cost me close to R50k over the last 3 years to repair!! Okay, I lie R21k, the first time the box broke Motorite covered the cost of the repair, R28k!!
And it's only got 118k on the clock!!!
After getting the box repaired about 3 years ago I was in the market for a replacement vehicle. Dealers offered me R95k on my A4 2.4 and I was looking at putting in another R100k odd and getting something around the R200k mark. I decided then that I wouldn't spend anywhere near R100k maintaining the Audi so decided to keep it. No regrets, I'm enjoying her despite recently dropping another R21k on a new ECU less than a year ago...
Of course, one always has an eye on the 2nd hand market and when you have Mike giving his A6 away for a meagre R90k, one is tempted to jump in and say, "hey, wait Mike, I'll give you R120k for her!!"
And Ye - had 4 Audi's now and none of them given me k@k. Solid machines. Main reason I keep buying them.
Oh - salesman throwing in an Audi tog bag and a beanie. Bonus. Suppose it kind of makes up for the R90k odd loss. NOT. Still cool though.
Not really no. Turbo replacement prices are always quoted from stealerships, 1/3 - 1/4 of the price from a reputable mechanic. And as sandman showed, a N/A engine can also cost loads...
If you have the full service history, list of claims against warranty, and have a good feeling with the owner, I don't think there's much to be worried about.
Thanks guys. Wasn't looking at Audi as it seems a little over-priced. Haven't looked properly at the pre-owned market though.
Was thinking BMW 125i coupe but not entirely sure on spending R4k+ on a car. First actual car purchase![]()
I tend to find that Audi is the least expensive of the three Germans in terms of cost / included options, with Merc being far far above the other two.
1 series is still built on their basic hatch and not the nicest car to drive, and yes I have driven one. I would say rather look for a slightly older 3 series at the same price if you want to go BMW, otherwise look at an A3 or A4.
The A4 is going to be getting a new model next year so the current ones will have a nice drop in secondhand price after the launch.
Only driven the 118i latest version when a friend got his brand new.
Liked the drive and the electronics to be honest. Might give Audi a look but I do agree Merc is a little over-priced.
Looking at a coupeat the moment and not the biggest fan of the A4 version. A5 though

Ah coupe fan I see. Yep look for an A5 secondhand, might be able to find a few though I have no idea what your budget is
