The Audi Thread

Haha, thanks bro!!

It's quite a different gig to the A4, less sporty and firm and more boat like! The price difference between the older A4 and A6 is small, like for like, 20k-30k, well worth it!!

Didn't you have an S4 or RS4 some time back? What happened to it?

My brother has that delay in his G6 GTI - assumed it was an annoying DSG/S Tronic thing that effected them all - so some don't have that lag?

In sport mode the box should be a lot more responsive. One should expect some lag in normal mode.

How's the gear changes on the S4 Dolby?

Tomorrow I am going to stick to sport mode and see what it's like. If anything like my A6 it will be short lived.
In the A6, normal felt like sport and sport transformed her into a freaking transformer or something.

Give it a bash and revert.

It's going to slap your fuel consumption figures for 6!!

Edit: ami and nav is going to set me back R12.6k, not sure it's worth it...

Just change it depending on the road...in my experience the better the road the more "sport" type settings work out. i.e. Stick to "soft" options unless you know the road is good.

AMI is not needed if you have bluetooth honestly. Nav could work, but also not a big issue if you are willing to use your phone and plug it in to the cig lighter or something.

Ye - I remember what my fuel gauge used to do in the A6 in sports. But hell was it fun - when my balls were feeling big enough.

I was going to do the AM and Nav thing on the A6 but decided against it. Car was booked in and everything and I cancelled at the 11th hour. AMI alone was like R7.5k or something. Common sense kicked in and decided to use the cash on the house.

Also, when on the highway and you need to overtake... As soon as you knock it into sport, it drops a gear, ready for action. It redlines every gear when you floor it and you are ahead in a flash. Then knock it back to D for more economical cruising.

I like the idea of being able to play music off the iPhone. At the very least I would want to have access to music on a sd card. Right now I have the 6 disc multiple changer in the glove compartment and that's it. Burning discs is a ball-ache I don't won't to revisit.

Suggestions?

That I used to do in the A6. Not done it yet in the A5 because I find the A5 acceleration quite intense on the freeway. Imagine sport mode then
I was fooling around on the weekend testing different responses. Cruising along in 7th gear at 125km/h. Put the foot flat to the floor and she freaking drops to THIRD gear at 125km/h and flipping launches ahead. Nearly klapped the car in front of me and had to make my move to the next lane a little quicker than I anticipated. Hardcore stuff.

I was also after the iPod setup and for the same reason as you. I even purchased a 64GB iPod in preparation for the installation.
When I canned the installation I gave the iPod to one of my daughters.

When I purchased the A5, I found it came with AMI and included both iPod and micro Sd.
I have used the micro Sd exclusively and not bothered with the iPod at all. 32Gb micro Sd loaded with my tracks and a happy camper. Got a 64Gb that I an struggling to get the Audi to recognise. Going to try fat32 instead of the current exFat.

See if you can't get a mod that is just SD and excludes the iPod. Could save you some tom.
I recall when I got my quote for the A6, there were various options. I took sd, iPod and bluetooth and it came to R7.5k. Think the cheapest option they had was about R3.5k. Can't remember what it included though.

I was going to ask for the iPod/iPhone prep on my demo, but then I learnt that I could use the standard bluetooth connectivity for media too. This not an option on yours?

Not that I'm aware. I got the Parrot hands free but I don't see an option to do anything other than make and receive calls. Must read the manual....

@Mike, yeah I mustn't get carried away with the extras!!

Did not even think about that. Will check it out tomorrow.
Won't you suffer a loss in quality using BT though? I know on my Marantz amp there is quite a big difference in quality between BT and direct.
My A5 has Bang & Olufsen and the difference in quality is massively distinct between 128 and 192kbps MP3's. Going to re-get my favourite tracks as 256kbps to get the best quality benefit form the system. If I can get the 64Gb SD to work then I will bump it up a bit more.
I am sure BT would sound a bit flat on a system like this? Will give it a bash though.

On my Passat, it was as simple as connecting the iPhone, opening the phone's player and pushing play. Sound quality is as good as the files are, which is usually 320 kbps for me. Passat system is not too shabby either, but definitely not as good as the B&O would be. I see the US version of the Passat comes with Fender sound.

What puts me off the iDevice is iTunes. Hate that app. And if you want to copy direct you have to jump through hoops.
Micros SD is plug into PC, copy, remove and plug into car. Full navigation of the albums and tracks via the AMI with the ability to create play lists. Way simpler for my purposes.
I really hate iTunes.
