The Audi Thread

I miss my auto-lock :( It's these small things that you miss the most when buying a new car...

Thanks - will check tomorrow !

Btw - your sound can't be that bad at all? Apart from the sub setting, you have DSP and probably other settings as well

If it's anything like my A6, he is going to have killer sound. The sound in that car was boss. Low volume it was crystal clear, but when you wanted to go taxi like it handled it with ease.

Yea - I mean I find mine pretty good as it and I think his will be better

All this A6 talk is making me hang for my old one. And all the Audi talk is making me want to go drive - anywhere. Sigh.

I was amazed with the sound when I first tested my B7 (and I do have some high end home audio kit). I really was not expecting a stock sub. I thought to myself, "What kind of windgat has been driving this car with the bass set so high?" expecting there to only be normal split/coaxial speakers.

I then checked the tone settings, and bass was at the halfway/normal mark. I then researched it and learned of the stock sub. And that I had the best radio/CD in the B7s (2007 - 2008 only).

Heard that the Bose sound isn't that much better.

Love evening drives with some introspective music and the heater on, makes me feel very grateful and privileged.

You know we disagree on a fair amount - but I actually do agree with you.

That said, I'm going on the 8P Audi A3. My previous Volvo had a Dynaudio system installed which I preferred. Not sure how much has changed since those days

Yeah, but you had Bose in yours!!

Better than a 2009 S4? Mmmm, maybe, not necessarily...

Maybe pay your pops a visit?! Leave now and you could be there around 1ish?

I test drove another 3.0 on Monday and one thing that jumped out at me was the sound!! I was actually quite startled at how good it was, nothing like what I'm hearing in my own. This Monday car had Nav, AMI, removable towbar, electric seats, car phone and what at least sounded like Bose sound and it was going for R150k (I paid R170k)!! Condition was poor though and it had 10 000km more on the clock!! When the labels and/or pictures around the knobs start disappearing, that's where I draw the line!!

Agreed!! A night cruise down a deserted highway, trance pumping in the background, is very therapeutic!!

I was so in tune with you until to said trance. But I'll let you have that.

Goth boy myself. Always have been.
Some Nephilim or Dead Can Dance while cruising down the same deserted highway you mentioned would do it for me. Sunroof open and the light purr of the V6 mixing in with the deep bass... Hell Ye.

I swing both ways bro!! Nothing wrong with a bit of rock but I'm more old school myself and not so hardcore, Led Zeppelin, Doors, a bit of Floyd, Creedance, Thin Lizzy, Uriah Heep... you get my drift...

Dynaudio is a specialist high end audio manufacturer and Bose is, well, not. It's regarded as the Apple of the audio world ;) I really wasn't overly impressed with it compared to the Dynaudio,

This article is a little old http://www.automotto.com/entry/10-amazing-surround-sound-system-car/ but the Volvo/Dynaudio have always been rated as some of the top factory fitted audio.

Not to say the Bose is bad, I just don't think the jump from Audi mid range to Audi high end is as larger as the Volvo mid to high end jump.

Unless the S4 upgrade was B&O?
When did they change?

I know Porsche use Bose too

Okay, now we're on the same page ;)

:D

Enjoyed the cruise home from work!! Keen to see how frugal this car can actually be but those are the best consumption figures I've seen in a while!!!

That is so good dude. Best of got in my 3.2 was 7.7. Which I though was pretty good considering.

Guys, a question.

When we went down to Durban this last weekend, we left the Bluff around 22H00 to head back to my folks in Hilton. The headlamps were so freaking low I could hardly see and was forced to use brights as much as I could - dipping when traffic came.
I am sitting in my cab fiddling with settings and see a Headlamp Converter option what the On and Off available values. It was set to On.
I switched it off and my headlamps lifted a few cms (looking on the wall in front of me). Can someone tell me what this setting is?

I did a guide Google and it seems to be a region based thing. For left hand drive it must be on and right hand drive off. All I could gather.

Just as I was getting over my PPD you post that?? Now I'm back to square one!! The clocks are awesome!!

I have to admit I am bonding quite heavily with this A5 dude. I mean to go sit outside in this freezing JHB weather at 22H00 just because I am craving to do something/anything with my car - kinda speaks volumes.

But ye - as time is moving on I am noticing more and more that I really like about the A5.
Since day one I have loved the sound of the engine turning over when starting. It sounds so sexy. Like Audi actually paid attention to what the car sounds like. Impressed. Then I noticed the clocks. Cherry on the top.

Was saying to my wife just now - Audi Airport are going to have to come up with a really special A6 to make me give up my A5. I was going to tell them to can it but decided to leave it and see if they can find a really good deal. I may score something sweet.

I plan on moving to an A7 in 2.5 to 3 years when time comes for the next upgrade anyway. Those cars are so flipping sweet. I seem to be taking to the odd number range. Been even forever. Maybe time for change.
