The Audi Thread

Ye - but can only hear it when I floor it and have the windows open.
Maybe click is not the right way to describe it, but there is definitely an audible sound when it shifts. Quite a cool sound at that.

No offence, but that sounds (hehe) odd. You might hear the turbo chirping or whistling, but you should not be hearing the gears changing?

I am going to chance it on a quiet road, and hang my phone out the window recording it :)

When I last took my car in to Audi, I asked the technician what the sound was when we went for a test drive, and be just said it was normal. Offered noting more than that.

I will query this tomorrow when I collect my car. Curiosity has the better of me now.

No turbo BTW. 3.2 FSi Quattro.

Let us know. It seems a bit odd; but you do seem to have sharp hearing! :D

This was discussed in Splinter's thread where he got his beemer. IIRC that timing between the two wasn't comparing apples with apples.

Yeah its definitely not 8ms that's for damn sure.

But anything that is faster than doing it yourself is fast enough and really just a paper value pissing contest.

Just collected my car. Such a happy chappy. Now got to get the panel beater to rectify the damage they caused.

Printed circuit board behind the mechatronics unit was burnt - which is what caused my malfuntion. They replaced that, did the gearbox oil and replaced the gasket. Total cost R7,607. Quite a bit cheaper than what I expected after reading the s-tronic scare stories around various forums.

I asked about the Audi SA assistance on the s-tronic that was mentioned when I dropped off my car. She said it was a 70/30 split with Audi SA taking the 70%. Pretty decent if you ask me, and makes me a lot less worried about keeping this car beyond maintenance plan.
I did not think to check if this assistance covered other components. Was mainly concerned about the transmission.

I feel like I am driving an A8 after the long period with the Etios. Very chuffed.

So this assistance cover is automatic on out of maintenance plan Audi's? For how long I wonder? So it's a subsidy to not turn people off the brand when s-tronics go kaput?

How I see it yes. Makes it not so bad to own one of these pricey transmissions now.

My daughter is stuck in a shoot out at Bedford Centre. Holy FK. And nothing I can do yet. Centre is locked down. STILL WAITING FOR POLICE. WTF!
2 people down and 2 injured apparently.
I am feeling so fkn helpless right now.

EDIT: Cops have arrived.

You know you are living in SA when your 18 year old daughter tells you to stop panicking, not to come because the centre is locked down, and says she was still in the middle of getting her hair done and wants to finish it anyway. Our kids are way more conditioned than we are.

EDIT2: 12H03 the centre evacuated. My daughter is safe and away from there. Some more robbers still in Edgars. Surrounded by police. Will get the rest of the info from the news or a thread when it pops up.
Emergency services are all over the place. Daughter says it is chaos.

S-Tronic / DSG gurus, please tell me what the sound is between gear shifts.

I was in my enclosed area so could not hammer it for long. Did a quick first gear so should be able to hear it on the first shift. After that I tapped off a bit, but you can still hear it in the second shift.

Demo of S-Tronic click / burp. What is it?: http://youtu.be/V5BHJTa1R_c

I couldn't brave hanging my G3 out the window. If no-one can make out the sound from the video, I will do it again tomorrow with an old phone.

The burp is interrupted spark while the engine changes speed

I myself am not 200% sure of what exactly the source is, all I know is that it is normal, sounds nice, and that you shouldn't worry about it.
