The Audi Thread

Oh right now I'm with you.

Bizarre that you need to pay extra for that on an A6, would expect it to be standard by now.

@Postman, I sooo wanted that when I saw it the first time! The problem is, the car's only just launched in SA, so there are limited options available. All the options with the LED were packed with extras and then I would have ended up spending more than I could afford. I could order one as I wanted it, but they've got a nice deal going now with R70k trade-assist which they might not have then.

Also, unless they've improved their LED headlight technology greatly since they put it on the R8, I really have to say I struggle to see the difference between that and the Xenons. Maybe if you compare them side by side, but not for everyday driving.

I would think the main lighting is still xenon, LED is more for the active things like directional indication, DRL, etc.

Could be wrong, but I'm under the impression LEDs are not used as the actual headlights.

Lovely car though, do share more pics after you've had your way with her for a while.

Actually, they've just released the main headlights in LED as well. I read up quite a bit in trying to make my decision. Apparently, it's got something to do with LED lasting longer and being cheaper to run, the Xenons are much 'brighter', which isn't disturbing to oncoming cars as well as some reports that the Xenons use materials that could be technically harmful.

The design of the LED's look very nice, though.

Very cool. Yip, that's the one I saw. The directional indicating looks awesome IRL.

Petrol or diesel?

I got the 1.8 Tfsi. That's all that's available at the moment. They're only launching the 3.0 Tdi later in the year. I was a bit hesitant going back to petrol after my 320d, but - on paper at least - the performance and fuel consumption should be similar.

I was also hesitant to get the 1.8, but at 140kw it's got more power than the pre-facelift 2T(@132kw) and its 35kg lighter. So far, I'm very happy with my choice!
