I wouldn't say my car fails to start ever, but if I switch it "ON" and then wait for the fuel pump and start up cycle to complete before turning the key further it certainly starts more nicely.

Maybe he was just a bit quick to turn the key and then let go again?

So I guess it depends what you mean by "properly".

Update:

The car is now at the mechanics again. Oil in water or water in oil....can't quite make out which. Any how...they want to charge her R16K to fix (new water pump and aircon regas(?). I asked her about the maintenance plan and she said they don't cover wear and tear. Lady distraught.

Would assume he turned ignition on for a brief second before full turn...
 
I have a A4 1.8T with Xenon lights. I notice when driving in the really dark i.e. no street lights, that the beams on normal i.e. no brights don't actually shine far enough forward when driving around 100km/h. I thought these lights auto adjust but is there a way to manually set them?
The thing about Xenon's is there is almost no bleed, it's like a line, bright/pitch black. So on a highway, your reaction distance is within deadly limits due to the lights being too low.

There should be a screw on your headlight housing

It's the white screw directly on top of the headlight (for up and down adjustment) Clockwise for up, anti for down.

The one on the side of the headlight is for left and right adjustment
 
The brake pads warning has come on on my Audi. 2005 a4. Where can I get them done or buy them at a decent price or is it easy enough to replace myself? Edenvale area or Pretoria.

It takes time to replace. I generally buy from the dealers and fit myself or pay a tyre place to fit it for me

Cheapest is to buy from a motor spares place, should be about R700 for Ferodo or Febi Bilstein etc. You can phone Audi, give them your VIN number, and they can give you the OEM part number which you can then take to said spares places.

Check your discs too, if there's quite a lip at the edge of the discs then you should replace those too. When last were your discs done? Same process of finding the part number as above applies.

You can then fit them at any mechanic or tyre place as mentioned.

Generally speaking, OEM brakes will be best in terms of noise/squeaks. I have performance front pads and Febi Bilstein rears, and they squeak.
 
Had my brakes done by Audi during the service about 40,000km ago but not sure if the discs were done too. I'll have a look see
 
This may seem like a dumb question but my car says service due now at 100 000km, but Audi only does the next service at 105k...it's then out of freeway plan. Can someone please clarify as to how this works?

If it's saying service now then it's because you're servicing based on time and not mileage.

Servicing is every 15,000km or once a year, whichever comes first.

Thanks PostmanPot! Looks like it's Schreuders Auto doing the servicing after this last one at Audi.

Oh nice, they're on Ladies Mile according to a Google? Family-run? Do give us some feedback please. Price, service, what was done, etc.

Also looking for a decent place in the Southern Suburbs, KC Auto in Kenilworth are specialists and pretty good too.

It's run by Marc Schreuder - this guy remembered my face and car from 2 years ago...even the two previous vehicles my father brought to them.

They've moved from the Ladies Mile premises to a business park in Diep River / Plumstead (you'll have to phone to find out exactly). I've taken my previous Audi to them and I must say that they go the extra mile. Car was given a full valet - they even fixed a squeak in the door that I forgot about. They phone you about any updates with regards to costs and additional work required, etc. Charge about R400 an hour for labour.

I'll post my future experiences here when the time comes.
