The Audi Thread

I've got a 2011 A4 B8, while driving yesterday I noticed the engine light come on and has stayed on. Any ideas what could be going on? The car still sounds fine

I hope it's not serious, will make an appointment with Audi to get it checked

Was there a flashing coil light as well?
Petrol or diesel?

It's petrol, no other lights just this. It's on constantly. I've made an appointment with Audi, hopefully it's not expensive

Really could be anything from a broken sensor to a loose fuel cap to a vacuum leak. Needs to be plugged in and the error code read

I've heard that the loose fuel cap is quite a common symptom of the check engine light appearing.

And just like that the light went off. Started the car this morning to get to work and the light has gone off. I will monitor it - if it comes on again I'll get it checked.

Thanks for the suggestions guys

The error will still be stored so you can plug in a diagnostics tool or take it to the dealer and have it scanned to see what the reason for the check engine light was.

Anyone know of a decent diagnostics tool thats available locally and isn't overly expensive, ie under R1k?

Did you get it on amazon or ebay?

Amazon. Buddy of mine at work have a drop shipping service in the US and we had a bout 6 guys here at the office that wanted a BAFX so it worked out nice and cheap. Pretty nifty little things. Saved me from swapping my Corsa for a 407 with CAM sensor errors.

Hi Everyone

I'm new on MBB- just bought myself a 2010 A4 1.8T. I really enjoy this thread- got a lot of info on here when I did some research before buying the car.

Oil consumption is 100%. Done 4000km on the car and did not need to top up any oil- heard some guys topping up every second week.
The onboard oil reader still shows full.
