At that price range, you would most likely be looking at the 8v (2013+)
Those 1.4s had loads of issues.
1.8s had issues pre 2013.
I have the 1.8 and love it!
You can definitely pick one up with full spec for under R300k

I've only driven the 1.4, 1.8 and 2.0 (S3)
The 1.4 felt quite sluggish...
The 1.0T I believe was released with the facelifted 8v shape?
Never heard of any issues with them but I can imagine it wouldn't be a very thrilling drive...

Awesome thanks, my bro has the 1.6 manual and i drove it one night for about 50 km.I really enjoyed that, but I would want an automatic.
The 1.4 will be sluggish, I only experienced it in an A1 which belonged to my girlfriend.
Around town it was ok, open road I didn't like.
Very efficient though and good city car.
When we looked for a replacement we tried to find 1.6tdi or 1.8 8v, nothing suitable within budget at the time.
Similar budget to yours but she had specific requirements and when they were all ticked, it would be a 2 door which was a deal breaker.
She ended up going for an A Class.

Didn't want to make a thread for this.
Anybody has any idea of how much this could cost to repaint (it's probably 2cm in height and no panelbeating needed, just the metallic paint gone)?
The insurance won't cover it unfortunately (don't have the dent option).
The small black dots all around are just dirt.

Have 250ml paint matched or better get the paint kit spare part for your Audi from the Audi service dept, it's about R250.
It's matched paint in little nail varnish bottle, carefully paint the scratch in with said paint and nail varnish brush. It'll be neigh invisible other than close up. Only other option is a full respray of that panel, which is probably around R4k at a decent panelbeater and to be avoided, they always cock it up slightly.

It's too easy to fail, just take your time, practise the fine application of the paint a little bit on scrap wood or whatever is at hand before moving to the actual scratch. You are basically just filling in the scratch like a dam, maybe also have some lacquer thinners at hand, if you stuff it up the first few tries just wipe it off with thinners on a cloth/paper towel and start again.Thanks, will try the DIY repair first.
If I fail (I usually suck at DIY), it will end up at the panelbeater anyway.
If you get it right you'll feel like a boss!

Audi Goes on Plug-In Offensive
Next week's 2019 Geneva Motor Show will see German carmaker Audi unleash an array of plug-in hybrids. Check them out.
The new plug-in hybrids complement the existing Audi portfolio and while e-tron is the badge used for exclusive electric products, these will gain an "TFSI e" badging to denote electric assistance. We'll get to see new hybrid variants of the A6, A7 Sportback, A8 and Q5.
The tech looks good. There's the zero-emissions urban driving in electric-only mode and the freedom to travel long distances with the refined internal combustion engines. Based on WLTP data, Audi claims an electric-only range of more than 40 km is possible for each model. Audi reckons customers can travel around a third of their usual route under electric power. In terms of battery tech, the lithium-ion battery for the A6, A7 and A8 is made up of 104 pouch cells, which are combined in eight modules. It stores 14.1 kWh of energy at a voltage of 385 V. The lithium-ion battery in the Q5 comprises prismatic cells and has the same capacity.
The A8 L 60 TFSI e quattro uses a 3.0-litre, 6-cylinder TFSI combustion engine with a permanently excited synchronous electric motor mated to a quattro all-wheel drive setup via an 8-speed tiptronic transmission. Combined power is rated at 330 kW and 700 Nm.
The Audi A6 and A7 Sportback models with plug-in hybrid drive use the same powertrain, with a battery capacity that is identical to that of the Audi A8 PHEV, but the 3.0 is swapped out for a four-cylinder 2.0 TFSI petrol engine linked to a seven-speed S Tronic transmission. Both models are available in two output levels with different boost performance. For the 50 TFSI e, the system output is 220 kW, for the 55 TFSI e, 270 kW is on offer. Peak system torque is 450 and 500 Nm respectively.
Finally, the Q5 PHEV uses the same 2.0-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder setup and is also available in 2 states of tunes. The 50 TFSI e quattro with 220 kW / 450 Nm system output, and the 55 TFSI e quattro with 270 kW / 500 Nm.
In terms of charging, you have the option of charging at home and at public charging stations. Audi claims a charging point with an output of 7.2 kW will charge one of the above products in about 2 hours.

Sales potential, however, will be a concern. CEO Bram Schot said: “We cannot afford to develop cars which do not respond to our customers’ wishes”.
Various S models are included in the brand’s future product strategy, although Audi plans for the E-tron GT to serve as a benchmark for upcoming sports models.
Rothenbieler said Audi Sport’s red logo reflected its performance ethos, but could be adapted to incorporate green as a sign of its electric potential.
The ‘emotional’ aspect of driving S and RS models will remain, said the panel, with electrified powertrains capable of much quicker acceleration than their conventionally fuelled counterparts, and associated steering and suspension technology allowing for greater driver control.

Audi Plans A Big 2019
2018 was not a memorable year for German brand Audi. Not only were sales down, but the WLTP efficiency test delayed new products and the brand is still feeling the side effects of Dieselgate. A massive turnaround plan is on the cards for 2019 and this includes some big models.
2019 will be a transition year for the Audi brand and while the big focus will be electrification and the rollout of the new E-Tron SUV, fans of the internal combustion engine need not be disappointed. Audi's chairman of the board of management, Bram Schot, said the brand will be launching 20 new or updated models in 2019. Interestingly, the press statement gave a nice breakdown too.
The Audi A4 sedan and Q7 will be refreshed with what Audi calls an innovation injection and according to Audi, "both vehicles are being updated with numerous innovations and an extended equipment list." Performance fans have a lot to look forward to as Audi Sport confirmed a new RS6, RS7 and a new RS Q3 will be revealed this year. Of course, we can speculate what the others are and we'd guess we'll see an RS Q8 using a similar powertrain to that of the Lamborghini Urus.
There will also be 9 new S models in 2019. Other models we know are being officially launched on the global stage this year include the SQ2, SQ5 TDI, new A3 and the Q4. There's also a big focus on green plug-in hybrid models too.

Just wanted to find out if there are any Audi convertible owners in this forum?
Would like to form a group to understand if Audi have a design flaw on their rear windscreen glass...
Bought an A3 8P convertible (late 2010 model) with 72000km on it. Spent most of it's life roof up in a garage by one owner. The rear windscreen (glass) is coming loose from the material top, which in turn WILL cause water to leak into the boot...
Audi say sorry it is "wear and tear" - I think design flaw if I look at ALL the other Audi convertibles seen in the last month (all of them suffer from this).
New tops cost R75k...
If this is a flaw, then we can band together to at least warn others about this issue seeing Audi not taking responsibility...
