The Audi Thread

Why is that?
The only thing I remember was from 2007 until 2013 they had the timing chain issues that required engine out to resolve them and to be honest my friends and I have done a few of these they not too bad if you know what you doing.
The CVT boxes were issues but if you maintained them well they were OKish

I know currently alot of new RS models are having crank bearings and valve lobes scorned because of Audi recommendation to use 0W20 oil for better emission results and that oils dont do well in our hot climate.

I have a rule with Audis and that is to ignore the ones made before 2013 (and the ones made after the fake badging and no push buttons).
You kinda get used to the badging - theres a table that helps with that
Audi’s new engine badges
Badge numberPower output
2580kW and under (up to 106hp)
3081kW to 91kW (107hp to 127hp)
35110kW to 120kW (145hp to 159hp)
40125kW to 150kW (165hp to 198hp)
45169kW to 185kW (223hp to 244hp)
50210kW to 230kW (278hp to 304hp)
55245kW to 275kW (324hp to 363hp)
60320kW to 340kW (423hp to 449hp)
70 400kW and above (529hp and above)

If I remember correctly Audi is going to redo this table as alot of models are missed between badging.

My current daily and my previous daily had push button start which is okay but there is something so satisfying about inserting a key and starting up an engine that you miss when you actually use a key that has a non push button start

0W20 is bloody thin, might as well use sewing machine oil at that stage

Considering 0W20 is meant for a temperature range of between -40 and 20C, I am not surprised they are having issues in our climate.

I stand to be correct I think there is a service bulletin out to change the oil out for a 0W40 in warmer climates.

0W20 in hotter climate is going to burn oil , I am sure there were owners that got the top up oil warning pop up

@Crowley, what's the latest on your A7?
Sorry for the late reply.

The holiday was overshadowed by the looming 76k repair bill waiting for me at home but I did my best not to think about it. We got back from holiday on the Tuesday and Morne called me later that afternoon with awesome news. Audi SA picked up the tab for the parts and I had to pay 16k, mostly for labor and some consumables for the gearbox oil change. 16k is still a lot of money but I'd take it any time over 76k + labor.

Huge shout out to Morne from Audi East Rand and Audi SA. As and when I upgrade my A7 there is nowhere else I would go.

The part probably cost R100. Did they give you the faulty part?

In general, OEM dealership workshops replace and very rarely repair, especially with gearboxes. Some of them will outsource repairs but most will simply replace.
But they will certainly know a guy that can fix it cheap cheap.
