The Audi Thread

I have exact same problem.
Been trying to get together enough courage to start stripping it & rewiring.
Let me know how it goes
I don't have the energy to try. I heatshrinked the areas I could get to. I actually stripped the headlights to try get my auto levelling motor to work again, then saw this mess. The issue is, a scrapyard headlight will likely have the exact same issue so a full rewiring would likely be in my future regardless.

Any link to how to take light apart?
Both my headlights are like that, one a bit worse than the other.
Also tried temp fixing where I could get my fingers in.

I used a heat gun to soften the glue (butyl?) keeping the lens on the housing, then separated it after removing the five clips holding it together.

Unfortunately, we had load shedding and the power never restored in time so I haven't reassembled it yet. My headlight leveling motor is not working as it should, and the manual adjuster is just clicking. I tried cracking open the housing but I couldn't extract the motor to clip the ball joint back in, so I might try find another headlight and Frankenstein one working housing out of the two.

Hmmm ... Wonder if my hot air station would work. Else I'll have to see who will borrow me heat gun.

Got my headlight issue sorted. I ended up having to wiggle the white thing down while turning the adjuster at the same time. I ended up not needing to split the headlight, but at the time I wasn't sure about clearance.

Now I know for next time. Below are some pics I snapped with my cheap boroscope camera. The white bit in the centre of the frame has more sticking out on the working headlight vs the faulty one. I ended up pulling it down with a screwdriver while turning the adjuster screw and that seemed to hook it back in. The cars with the adaptive headlights really need the proper procedure to be followed, otherwise you end up with trouble like I did.

And like clockwork, another issue rears it's ugly head.

The bonnet won't open today. It sounds like the cable is still good, but the mechanism won't release.

At this rate I am going to be saging the car before the month is over.

I had this as well before
Lie under car
Fit hand in & push the release clip

No room with the B7.

I'm trying to fashion up a rod to fit in there so I can reach it. I have maybe 30-35mm clearance between the radiator and the block so no hand of mine is fitting up there lol

If you pull the bonnet up while someone pulls the release?

Tried that as well, including rocking the bonnet and the car in all directions. It's hard to see but it looks like the cable came unclipped but I will only be able to confirm once I have it open

Managed to pry the clip on the latch off and open the bonnet using an old broomstick with some strategically placed 6mm bolts.

In the process, I mangled the switch that tells the car when your bonnet is open.

The cable isn't clipping in so well, so I think a new one is in order along with a new microswitch.

One step forward, two steps back.

Is the cable stretched or something? Why would it unclip itself?

The sheath looks rusted in places. I think it's probably binding inside the sheath and may have stretched a bit. But the clip on the latch side is also not looking so hot.

EDIT: I'm going to see if Cable Man can make a cable up for me to spec. I got the cable out (and also did some weight reduction by removing the old tracker that was still in the car) and it's probably best that I replace it. It wasn't a huge job that just involved removing the kick panel, some trim bits in the engine bay and the wheel liner.

If I had the finances and space, this is up for sale at the moment...

That is gorgeous. I am busy reading through that thread now, the amount of detail and care he put into it is insane.
