I'll add it to my list of automotive mysteries then.

Along with the legend that Porsche could not sell their 356 replacement model as the 901 because Peugeot told them only they are allowed to sell cars with a 0 in the middle of the model number. Then explain to me the Ferrari 308?

They made the '0' an 'o' instead. So instead of selling the three zero eight, they sold it as a three oh eight?

I thought I had posted about it, the offending little plastic/rubber 'switch' was removed as it is an agent only part, so things like the radio won't stay on after the ignition is switched off and key is in the ignition barrel but at least everything switches off like it should and the car can be locked.

Ahh yeah you did, wasn't sure if that was just the interim solution or the permanent fix.

Either way the car should turn the radio off after 20 minutes anyway to save the battery from running down.
 
Anyone else had this issue before with one of the number plate lights giving up the ghost? It might just be the bulb needing replacing this time around I suppose. My Audi is an A3 1.8TFSI Ambition 2010 model.

Last time this happened (March 2018) they said the number plate light fitting connections had burnt so they had to replace the whole unit which cost me R2570 (VAT inclusive). It's a common problem apparently. The most irritating thing is the warning light on my dash going off every time I start the car.

March 2018 pricing:
-Number Plate Light Fitting R 1,735.00 ex VAT
-Labour (no. plate fitting) R 520.00 ex VAT

Not looking at anything more at this stage as it would involve a dealership, at least for parts but if it gets worse then I'll have no choice. To be honest, I want to replace the car never having liked it but it is paid off and we have other priorities at the moment.

I have never heard of that happening but have had an Audi with wiring issues before. Who did the work in 2018?

Those parts prices, ouch ouch ouch, I bet you the bulb contacts could have just been cleaned.
Those are normally easy to remove, looks like just one Phillips PH2 screw in your case, take it out and have a look, probably is just a globe. Get the globe at Midas not Audi.

I needed to replace a similar globe - Honda R95, Hella from Midas R14..

OK this is jogging my memory. I didn't have the right screwdriver so my friend helped me replace the bulb back in 2018 and that didn't work. Then when I did my next service they checked it out and said the whole unit was fried.

Thanks, I will likely ask Ferroli to look at it during my next service, hopefully just a bulb issue. I remember the screws being a pain last time to unscrew due to the awkward angle.
 
Said farewell to the Audi and dropped it off at WeBuyCars this morning. I do hope the next person has many trouble-free miles, which they should owing to the rebuilt engine.

Such a pity I could never figure out what caused the heinous fuel consumption on it. If it weren’t for that, it would make a lovely commuting and weekend car, but the reality is that it was just costing me too much in fuel as a daily driver :(

Sad days but probably the right decision, that vehicle was a basketcase, I’ve had something similar before, even if you bankrupt yourself and fix them up properly there’s always something not quite right or signs that it’s had a rough life that can never be erased. How much did you have to take on the chin?

Lowballed me at first but got close to my asking price of R55k. Given the car's spotty service history, age and mileage, I was not expecting much. And with the little one around the corner, I didn't see lus to still argue with tyre kickers and joyriders so WBC was the obvious choice for me.

Yip, at the end of the day I threw a lot into this car and it's money I would never have seen again - the car has unfortunately had a hard life, but hopefully, someone with more patience, spare cash and ability than me can turn it into a nice daily. Truth be told, all it needed still was the roofliner to be redone and some minor bodywork, and then the heavy fuel consumption which I am convinced is something to do with the MAF or the injectors but I've been through enough with it so it was time for it to go.

It's been replaced with a 2018 Renault Duster that will serve as the new daily. Maybe one day I will rejoin the Audi family, but for now, reliable motoring is needed and takes precedence over a nice ride or creature comforts. I have lost track of how much money I put into this car, but truthfully, it is probably close to the R80k mark all-in. I am actually too scared to go through my invoices, so let's leave it at that:X3:
