The Audi Thread

RMH in Parow. I think the DPF was already blocked and affecting performance when I did the EGR. Now it feels very sweet

If one's aircon starts acting up on an older Audi (mine is an A3 2010 model year) is it fine to take it straight to a good car aircon place? My normal mechanics referred me to a place in Montague Gardens, but it's a bit far for me so I am going to find something closer to home (Stellenbosch).

Not in a hurry just yet, it's just making weird noises now and again. Or am I better off just getting it serviced and checked out before it gets worse?

edit: A couple of aircon places were recomended to me by my regular workshop and by a friend, I am going to wait to see if the issue persists or gets worse.

A long and not so rosy look at the new Audi's

He has some valid points.

Audi to launch first cars with full Rivian software stack in 2028

Audi is testing mules in partnership with Rivian already; new tech will cut complexity, add functionality

Audi will launch its first cars with a Rivian-developed software stack in 2028, marking a step change in the way it develops its cars and the features they include.

The Volkswagen ID 1, launching in 2027, will be the first VW Group production car to use Rivian elements, but Audi will be the first brand from the group to bring a car to market with a complete software architecture developed in partnership with the Californian outfit, with which VWG established a software joint venture last year.

That's because "Audi has the highest requirements when it comes to functionality", said CEO Gernot Döllner - plus, the heightened efficiencies and reduced complexity brought by the new technology will tie into the German brand’s push for clearer and simpler operations.

"It's 2028 where we'll see it in the market. We are heavily working on it with the Rivian-Volkswagen joint venture, building up mules right now and working intensively together, so the first cars are already on their way,” Döllner told Autocar.

He revealed that the technology will be introduced in a pair of all-new cars – “if you take a step like that, you do it in a new platform” – which occupy different market segments.

Yeah, i've already asked them a bazillion questions :X3:

They filled the coolant expansion tank to this level for what it's worth. Pic was taken when the engine was cold, but it was the same level upon arriving home and the engine was warm.

5 years on and I have a slow coolant leak going on. Losing an estimated 50ml of fluid per week whilst driving 140km in total. Visually it's about a 2-3mm drop on the coolant overflow tank per week. Will ask them to check it out at my next annual service this month. 2010 Audi A3 1.8TSFI S-tronic Ambition with 136,661km on the odometer...

More than likely one or another of the various plastic coolant flanges used, after enough heat cycling they develop hair line cracks.

My 2012 3.0tdi with 220k on the odo was losing coolant. Ended up replacing water pump for R3k.

If anyone is interested, I created a 3D printed footrest for my Audi A1 to protect the carpeted area to the left of the brake pedal from dirt and sand and reduce friction when resting your foot. The footrest also creates a smooth surface for easier foot movement.

My first A1 had a stunning brushed aluminum footrest that I sourced from a guy in the UK many years ago, I sold it with that car and created this one since I could now that I have a 3D printer.
