The Banting/LCHF Thread

I don't like plain water, but can easily drink litres of sparkling water a day. We have a Sodastream machine at home, so I load up a few bottles of bubbly water every morning.

Noob question, but does the 'energy' come from the fat?

I'm starting on protein and cauli (still have some low GI bread) - I'm trying this to control glucose but it feels like I'm running out of energy.

your body needs to switch from being dependent on carbohydrates to being dependent on ketones, so it's not unusual at first to feel "flat" and out of energy

Heavy protein makes me feel very flat. You need to focus on keeping your protein intake about the same as usual and swapping the Fat and Carbs around. Protein and Cauli will not be enough. You need fats.

You are going to feel a bit flat, took me about 2 weeks to adapt and you do go on a bit of a trip when you ditch sugar! Good luck :D I now do 10km runs on eggs & bacon breakfasts.

The most delicious fat for me is a skaaptjoppie

How bad would a baked cheese cake be if you cutting out carbs? One little binge wont hurt you and we will pretend it never happened, or the universe will explode and everyone dies?

There are plenty of low-carb cheesecake recipes floating around. Cream cheese, sour cream, ricotta, mascarpone, whichever ones you're using, the main ingredients for the filling are all low in carbs. Just need to sub the sugar out (obviously), and replace or skip on the crust/base.

That being said, all my attempts have been really meh :o I've resorted to just buying it from banting-friendly stalls at the weekly food markets here in CT

Edit: Haven't personally tried this one, but:

I am going to do it without crust I think. I cant be bothered with that.

Im not a person who really follow recipes, I'll see a recipe and adjust it to my taste or style.
I saw somewhere a recipe for a baseless pizza, which was basically, tomato puree, cheese and mushroom and lotsa cheese.
I made my own style last night:
-Half a tin of Tomato Puree in a oven dish, preferably a deep one. this is the bottom layer
-Sprinkle some Italian herbs(Robinson) and salt and black pepper.

-Big black mushrooms on top of that, side by side as many as you like.
-Feta cheese to be broken all over the musrooms, one disc or as many as you like.
20150708_172310.jpg
-Add some salami
20150708_172609.jpg
-Spinach to cover over everything and fill up the dish to the top.
-Mozzarella cheese over the spinach to cover all the green.
-Add garlic to cheese if you want to.

Put in the oven at 180c temp, should take about 20 min.
enjoy. try not to eat everything in one go :D
