I assume some sort of zero \ low sugar kind? All Gold won't work as it is like syrup (have not read up on their lite version though)

That recipe is a typical barbecue basting. Almost all of them have sugar of some sort - either brown sugar, or tomato sauce, or both. Even Asian style bastings usually have sugar.

So, I suppose what would be important is how much sugar you would be ingesting in total? If there is not that much sugar added, then its okay.

If you wanted a no sugar added recipe, you could do something like this:
Chopped tomatoes, chopped onions, apple cider vinegar, paprika, cumin, oregano, garlic, salt. Simmer until everything has melted together and is thick. Could be a while, like an hour. Add the spices in the last 10 minutes only. You'll have to do it by taste. Also remember that sugar will add as a thickening agent, so it might not get that thick without it.

Alternatively, you could do a Asian dipping sauce. It will never be thick enough to be a basting, but maybe it doesn't need to. Try finely chopping coriander and chilli, and adding soy sauce, fish sauce and possibly a little sesame oil. Heat that up to get the flavours to mingle. It will be very salty though. You could add rice vinegar for a bit of acidity, or possibly even dilute it with water.

Experiment!

people are so anal when it comes to sauces ... it's not like you gonna drink the whole bottle

Well, if your aim is to lose weight, then ketosis is pretty important and there is enough sugar in sauce to spike insulin and pull up the handbrake on weight loss for that day.

There are 21g of sugar (5.25tsp) in 100ml of All Gold - that's not going to assist in weight loss...

Who the hell eats 100ml of tomato sauce while they are eating??? :wtf:

"would you like some burger with your sauce sir?"

I've been LCHFíng for over 2 years, I've never once worried about being in or getting into ketosis, there's times when I'm stricter about my carb intake than others, but I've never once bothered to actually check whether I'm in ketosis or not, I think awareness of your overall carb intake as well as the form of carbs is more the key without the need to be a carb nazi

Only a noob worries about whether they are in ketosis or not.

Lol just joking!

Erm, how much would you use to marinade / basting? Because THAT is what we were talking about....

Some recipes call for as much as a cup of tomato sauce, so I suppose it would depend on how many racks of ribs that would cover.

But yes, it would not surprise me if 100ml of tomato sauce ended up being slathered on ribs.

You guys are making me hungry for ribs now!

Do you eat every single piece of meat, and lick up every single drop of tomato sauce. You got problems bro lol

Didn't you stall a while back? Very often people lose a lot of weight but as they get smaller, they need to be more strict to lose the last kg's. Sugar would definitely slow\stall.

I am not anal, but if the goal is weight loss, one needs to avoid ALL sugar like the plague.

I was in the same boat before I fell off the wagon 7 weeks ago. Too much AZ, low carb bread, nuts and Lindt. Stuck on the same weight for months.

I have just jumped back on and am going meatless during the day (read lots of eggs, butter and a bit of cheese for brunch) and only high fat meat like pork rashers at supper time. I want to lose the 3kg I gained over my sugar fest and lose another 5 to break 100

OH - almost forgot to share. I did my first 24hr fast yesterday to deplete my glucose stores. Only the afternoon was tough and I found I could only eat my normal supper quantity last night.

I can taste I am burning fat today so it seemed to have worked. Upside was not having to cart planned food to work yesterday. Will probably do another next week and see if it speeds up weight loss.

I'd love to break 110. I've dropped from hovering at around 114 to low 112. Have been "not eating at work" for the last two weeks. Well mostly. Also mostly just water. No Monster.

I'd love to hear what impact you think the fasting had... especially after the second one. During this period, do you weigh everyday, to see if there is a dramatic drop after the fasting, or shortly thereafter?

Life is for the living boet. If he's made allowances for it, no reason not to use it. Also, I've read some thing where even sugar used in rubs mostly drips off the meat when it melts. Either way, even if it didn't, that amount of tomato sauce won't be a problem. You're never going to be eating all of it. And if you did, not a huge biggie. Just stay away from any sugar/carb for a day or two.

I did something similar when I started. Now I don't bother with low carb breads and all of that. Only thing I have once in a while is a dessert made from berries, whipped cream and a little bit of cold brew coffee.
