I have also replaced my daily red wine habit with the same. Very refreshing and I don't miss the wine so much

Check the sugar content of the juice? Is it the pure lemon juice or the lemon squash stuff?

Noooooooooo so wtf is banting mayo?

Yeah its not so straight forward. Best habit to get into is reading the ingredients of everything you buy. Unfortunately you'll quickly realize sugar is present in almost everything. Everyone's eating bacon, but almost all "commercial" ones include sugar whether it's Eskort, Enterprise, PnP, Woolies ect. Other day I was braaing a few nice lamb chops and boom, the chop spice has sugar to grrr.

Here's a basic mayo.

Banting Mayo

Almost all the mayonnaises you get in the stores are made with veg oils,
which are against Banting religion. Stay away from
all of them and make your own safe and delicious mayo. You can add anything
to it just like a normal mayo so go wild with flavour combinations.

1 whole egg
2 egg yolks
1 tbsp dijon mustard
juice of 1 lemon
½ cup coconut oil, extra-virgin or refined
½ cup quality olive oil
1 tbsp double thick greek yoghurt
salt and pepper

1/ Combine the eggs, mustard and lemon juice in a food processor.
2/ Melt the coconut oil in a small pot until it turns to liquid.
Avoid heating it too much or it will cause the eggs to curdle.
3/ Turn the food processor to a fast speed and slowly pour the
coconut oil and olive oil into the egg mixture.
4/ Once the mayo has emulsified, add the yoghurt and season to taste.

This should keep for about a week in the fridge.
Note: If you bulk this up with yoghurt you can make it go a lot further.
Coconut oil is outrageously expensive so it needs to be stretched as far as possible.

MAKES 400ML

It's that small green squeeze bottle with the yellow cap :p the pure juice, Lecol I think. Will check tonight if there's sugar in it, didn't think to because sugar didn't cross my mind.

You think I should just use real lemons?

The reason I'm drinking it is because there's this rumour that lemon juice also helps with weight loss. Would like to confirm this rumour.

Just a dash is fine imho. No it won't help the weight loss but it makes the water less boring ;-)

He neglected to mention that it doesn't last very long, you'll have to finish it in a couple of days

I think he did

Why are peanuts/peanut butter not allowed?

The carbs in a single serving of Peanut Butter (the one in our fridge with no salt or sugar added) are pretty negligible in my books.

I'm thinking about having a spoon full as a snack before my workouts.

Because it's not a nut, it's a legume, and it plays havoc with your blood sugar levels. Just because it doesn't have a lot of carbs doesn't mean it won't spike your blood sugar. High blood sugar = high insulin and insulin keeps fat in the cells instead of letting it out naturally.

This is not what I wanted to hear Sinbad. Your ability to spread good news is weakening....and frankly I'm disgusted by it

Explain havoc please...

I was under the impression that peanuts are very low on the Glycemic Index and very slowly release the energy. Would one tablespoon really cause so much trouble?

PS: I don't know anything about legumes. Haven't had peanuts in years but I heard they are good for energy before a strenuous work out.

Bite me. (I'm high fat btw) :p

Anything that's "good for energy before a strenuous workout" is something that spikes your blood sugar.
Peanuts DEFINITELY do that. Real nuts are fine - peanuts are evil.

Perhaps phrased wrong.

Sustained energy through a work out might be better. I know all my trail running friends use it before a race.

Thanks for the info. Will certainly read up about it a bit more.
