There's not such a device no, but I wish there was, with a slide-out keyboard. I'll take one today.

Actually the iPhone 3GS is much faster hands down on any search compared to blackberry.
Can the blackberry stream radio, youtube, Torrents (Yes there's torrents apps), etc..
The onlly reason they give you a unlimited data bundle is coz that you can't use it for much else other then browsing and messaging. I've clocked over 2gb's of data on my iphone in a week!!!

As for the encryption. If you work for the CIA, FBI, DOD, then the least of you worries is which phone is better :P

A new Bold 9700 is apparently on the way ... but it may take up to 4 months before we'll see it. The other Berry's without 3G/HSDPA just doesn't cut ot for me as a "now" smartphone. The flatrate BIS is however a deal maker so I'm serious looking at getting the Bold for the BIS. If only the new Bold could come sooner ...

The HTC Hero has much potential. Wish we can be informed when we'll get it locally. The Hero with a hard keyboard - at a R550 pm pricepoint with data (MTN AT350 or similar with data) will win me over immediately. The Dream looks like a cheap chinese-made toy, so it's not an option.

The iPhone just wins every comparison I've made. If only one with a hard keyboard was available ... but I may just try to live with the soft one. The lack of real competition may just force me to.

Hey Dude.

WRT to the hard keyboard. I too was very weary of this feature. I type close onto 100 words per min on a normal keyboard progressive. So I love qwerty and its all its glory. After using my iphone 3gs i can honestly say that I am typing alot faster on the touch screen then I would on any hard phone qwerty keyboard. I was actually blown away as to the speeds of my typing skills on the iPhone compared to other smartphones with hard qwerty keyboards. Alas must be in landscape mode :)

The iphone 3gs is so damn fast.. that you actually cheesed off when using it initially. Everything is so sensitive and fast that when you typing on the touch keyboard you often tend to hit keys by mistake resulting in spelling errors. You've got to be 99% spot on with finger placement both up and down as not to accidentally hit other keys. Having said that its a no brainer. After 1 week of usage I am flying away and yes I do make odd mistakes here and there, but thats what's the back space is for :D

After using the iPhone 3gs touch screen keyboard, I dont think I want to go back to a hard keyboard. I can't believe I actually just said that. But its true. Never would I have thought that day to come.

I want an iPhone 3GS but I can't get one. The problem with iPhone is that, no matter how much better it is than the competition, it's just not available. No use knowing about some fantastic mysterious device that nobody can actually buy. This is most frustrating. I've given up on visiting Vodacom affilliated shops or calling VodacomDirect. The "Sorry Sir, we don't have it, and don't know when we will get it ... " line sucks. I think a lot of people have phones now that they may not have had if the iPhone was actaully available.
 
Vodashop in nelson mandela square at Sandton City has some stock. I was just there this morning.

I am sure you can stream, watch youtube, and download to hearts content, just not using the free BIS/BES whatever it is. You used 2Gb but on your own data account, you can also go 2Gb on your own account with blackberry, not a differentiator imho.

How is the lack of an unlimited data plan Apple's fault? Speak to Vodacom about that.

PS. What does a Blackberry do that an iPhone does not?

I'm 40. I've just made the turn and am slowly returning to being a kid again ... so bring on that iPhone! I don't care what business men want/need, my business now is to play until the end ... :D
 
Nothing like "playing" on a phone during all the loooooong boring business meetings (whilst pretending to answer important e-mails, like I'm doing right now :D ).
 
:) I was given an E71 as a company phone. It has a green button and a red button and it works!! :p :p

So not true and you are obviously one of those as mentioned who do not have an Iphone.

Best browser, best email viewer, integration excellent and setup in a flash with no crap blackberry plugins required to do business! Oh and at a extra cost if you want it done properly with blackberry.

i think you need to check the specs on the 3GS battery
