The big problem with TelkomSA-R

Telkom has said that it is still optimising its network after switching roaming providers from MTN to Vodacom. Subscribers on Telkom LTE-only contracts and similar packages using “on-network” data have been reporting problems since the switchover started on 1 July.

The new partnership was meant to bring seamless roaming on the Vodacom LTE network to Telkom subscribers.

Its been terrible - the entire reason I moved to Telkom was to get off the Vodacom network.

I'm pretty much going to have to get a Cell C sim card now so that I can get reception at my house.

It's terrible. Weird things are happening. Like I have all net voice minutes and I try to call Telkom land line and it says I don't have insufficient airtime to make a call. I asked Telkom and they told me I must buy Telkom to Telkom minutes.
I'm running out of options. Where do I run to? Maybe I should have just stayed with MTN

Noticed that in my area (Polokwane, Flora Park) if I use 4G/LTE I automatically get connected to Telkom-R, even though TelkomSA network has stronger coverage than Vodacom(doing a manual network search and selecting TelkomSA will connect to TelkomSA for 10minutes or less and then disconnect and connect to Telkom-R). On The other hand if I use 3G/H+ I stay connected to TelkomSA, even when Telkom's coverage is weaker than Vodacom's, and only changes to Telkom-R when I completely lose coverage to TelkomSA. Anyway Telkom's H+ is faster than their 4G in my area so I don't mind staying on H+. Seems like Telkom doesn't want people to use their LTE coverage.

Yawn, this has been posted like a hundred times before

My problem is not LTE related since my handset does not support it. Since the switch people have been advising me of missed calls and not being able to reach me, messages coming in late. Like when CellC used to partner with Vodacom.

This will be the death of "Telkom mobile"

Remember this post in 2 years time when the results come out.:)

Wife is experiencing this.

You can't select Vodacom as the agreement is different. However, when it does switch (she has no choice in the matter) it uses her "All network" data and not her "On-Net" data. This isn't fair though I would say... If she forced it sure, but she has no choice as the switch-over is out of her control based on location... Makes Zero sense.

Telkom has become the same sh*t show CellC has been for years now

Telkom mobile not Telkom fixed.

Best price and coverage in my area, I also only use prepaid so can jump ship with ease. Still have my old 082 number ported from Vodascum.

I was even using their LTE offering until we got fibre in my area.

I'm struggling with this new network change, I'm spending more than R500.00 pm and yet can't use what I'm paying for, this is criminal

Roaming does not require seamless handover by default unless you select it.

What does that Mean ?
Customers who are Travelling and need to make a long call should go on their mobiles and select Vodacom.

They should never be forced on roaming or OFF roaming.

Cell-C roaming on Vodacom was best and Telkom roaming on MTN was fine too.

The customers could select it on their Mobile and when no home signal was available "not even a single BAR" it would automatically look for Roaming network which is 100% fine.

All operators should have the CDB and residential areas and tourist spots well covered , there should be no roaming allowed in these areas.

How sure are out that it's a telkom landline and not one that has been ported to another service provider?

Always best to check if you're having problems. https://www.porting.co.za/PublicWebsite/

So we not going to entertain the idea that roaming partners might be hell bent on degrading service to show up TELKOM?
