The big question behind disabling P2P (WBS please read this)

Anyone successfully used gprs for voip? or Wow or p2p for that matter??

I tried it and averaged local pings over 1000ms and very poor down and up load rates.

Well if shaping kills it to hell & gone then by my understanding that's exactly the same as killing it, not so...?

The only advantage to having one or more P2P threads a day is that new forumites become aware of just how restrictive WBS' "freedom on the internet" is with iBurst - IMO totally false advertising...:(
 
no blocked means its blocked and theres no chance of doing p2p, throttled to the point where its not effective means you can still connect to networks and transfer data but it won't be the same as on a priority protocol, in other words its **** slow, but technically you can still use it (if you choose to) there are ways around it, there are even good communities of p2p users all on iBurst (remember they DON'T shape iBurst to iBurst connections, somethign we found on this forum and something that lead up to the whole "abuse" thing, plus shaun confirmed this to me)

so its not blocked, its just not ideal... if you take the time you can still use it, and if you have about R100 extra a month you can either get yourself a nice fast 10GB VPN or private proxy, which will give you 120KB/s speeds and even higher anonimity, but if you're not the kind of person who wants to look for workarounds or use external services, I just say DON'T USE IBURST, just liek I'd tell any hardcore gamer who wants to mess with fast paced FPS games and the like.
 
Keep this topic up! At least new comers want iburst for p2p will know iburst will not work ( unless u calling downloading p2p 100kb/day is " working ", i usually consider a car cant go beyond 2km/hour speed " not working "....... ). Just try to image, if we accept this kind of misrepresentation over and over, then guess what iburst will do next? giving us 128k speed on an 1mb line and tell us 1mb is the so call "MAXMIUM SPEED"? so does p2p are "SHAPED" not "BLOCKED"? go figure. The only reason i am still using iburst is because i paid R2800 exact for the modem. Trying to make it back still......
 
not that i have run out, the point i was trying to make is that THAT would be the response of WBS, because a) They don't give a **** about their customers, and b) they don't know what the f1ck they're doing as a business

That is very apparent to anyone with an inkling of an IQ

I don't work for WBS but I believe in hearing both sides of the story and seeing is believing and taking a neutral standpoint

Get an inverter for your car. It converts your 12v into 220v (the same as the power in you house). You can pick up 1000W inverter for under R1500 at most outdoor warehouses. It works beautifully; u can literally use any electronically appliance in your car.

A lovely waste of money. Your laptop and your iBurst modem can be driven off the car battery using a properly designed regulator circuit. If you want to use bar heaters, stoves and other **** in your car then fine, get the inverter.

It works wonderfully. I have a fully-stocked bar fridge in my car.

here it is .. Iburst is not a product sold by wbs for p2p use .. the original reason of iburst if you guys did your homewaork was to get internet access to people in rural areas or areas that cannot afford high speed internet. It was not made or designed for p2p use. I used to work for them and i resigned. But i will tell you right now it is only designed for http and http downloading. If you dont like it why dont you just get a adsl line which you can use p2p on its only 250 rand more then iburst if you wanna p2p. If you want fast http throughput then by all means use iburst . All i ever hear is people bitching about p2p .. there are better thenings to kill your cap on the on p2p. believe me
 
Well I would use ADSL if it was available in my area - but iBurst is all I can get.

I would also understand if iBurst said it couldnt support it - but if it says it can do something and doesnt deliver - thats where I draw a line. (Yes, I am on the 9 Gig solution that supposedly supports P2P.)
 
I dont need fast p2p, but I have been told by iBurst employees that I should be getting about 6-8k which would be fine. I'm not, I'm getting nothing.
 
well then NightZ, thanks for clearing that up for us. I don't need fast p2p either. I can't get ADSL in my area, not for 2-5 years. There is no Telkom line either.
 
You know my friend has adsl 384 shaped and he gets 40kbytes/sec download (obiviously depending on the number of users and connection ect)

Using limewire and no special settings

LOL , U really think rural can afford Iburst , now you are smoking socks.
I think you are now talking about the technology and not WBS's business plan.
WBS advertised it as the FASTEST broadband , which technically speaking at 1mbs , it is .
They did not focus on Rural , in fact I see very little rural on theri map coverage.

Yup it is not designed , because of certain bandwidth management systems that have been put in place.
My latency on local and international for gaming is actually not that bad , the problem is going to come in with games that require more than 64kbps
I am not interested in the file shareing systems. With teh local servers I sometimes get as low as 60ms and International about 300ms.

So what is your definition of P2P ?
 
i read somewhere, that p2p and torrents are responsible for 60% of the worlds internet traffic. I suppose since its only the man on the end who gains from p2p, the isps around the world are trying to make more money off it.

Yes I agree with that, that's more or less the right figure. What worries me is the US govt will try and put a stop to it too.
