The big SA Post Office lie

Hah hah. The $10 item I ordered on May 10, 2018 off Ebay from China never arrived. The seller was great, followed up and sent a replacement on 17 August. I'd written them off when I got a message to pick the second item up at the post office on 17 Jan. Fair enough. Then the first item arrived 7 Feb That's nine months. Customs duty was payable on both. There must be massive warehouses full of undelivered mail. I have a theory based on the very fast turnaround time we're experiencing with SARS on transfer duty declarations, is the taxman's desperate to raise revenue ahead of the end of the tax year and put a rocket up the PO's backside. After all, undelivered mail = uncollected taxes.

The big SA Post Office lie

The South African Post Office has developed a reputation for offering poor service to its customers.

This was shown in 2018 when a mail backlog that started in May took six months to clear.
Well I must say they do take their sweet time! When you do get a answer and they can help you it is usesly with friendlyness most of the time. And let's be truthful here most of South Africa can not deliver proper service! Just saying.

The ANC cannot run any SOE.
The Post Office is guaranteed to give cr@p service in all 11 languages!

Since when is 'crap' filtered profanity?

Sorry ... back on topic ...

Barnes was to be the saviour of the SAPO. Doesn't look like he has accomplished anything much in his time at the helm.

Anyone still using the South African Post Office deserves exactly what they get.

We have been spoilt rotten with new services such as The Courier Guy, Internet Express, just to mention a few, who can deliver parcels in the same province in the same day, for less than R100. Most of them offer safe delivery within 24 hours.

For international parcels we have DHL, Fedex, UPS, who all are able to deliver parcels in about 4-7 days from anywhere in the world.

Yes, we do pay a bit more for these services, but at least we get our packages / mail delivered safely in virtually no time at all. Just a thought of what the SA Post Office used to be before 1994.

Barnes was always there for the Grant payments. Nothing else.

Have a parcel from overseas that landed in the country 4 January 2019. This container has not even been opened as yet, nevermind delivered. I have sent 6 emails as week as a complaint email which is now 13 days ago and still unanswered....
Boet, prepare to wait.

I am still waiting for an item to be delivered. Been sitting at Jimc since 25 July 2018

BS. The rot was well set in before the new dispensation, hence the rise of courier companies.

I strongly disagree. The post office was awesome pre '94. I probably sent off 10 airmail packages per week to europe, nz, oz & us. eu was 5-7 days, nz&oz 7-10 days either way via airmail.

Nothing ever got lost, there were no low-lifes stealing your stuff, you could mail cash and it would safely arrive. In those days the post office was run by paraat tannies that took no schit and ran the place with an iron fist. I really wish we could have the old PO back.

speeding fines and utility bills always seem to be delivered in time :p

This is crap and fake news. Nothing is cleared!
True that, lost 8 parcels last year before I stopped ordering intl parcels. Very depressing after that, miss my eBay and Banggood goodies.

No more weekly surprises :(

At the PO I can recall consistent 4 week delivery times for eBay/Chinese sellers, 6 weeks if you were unlucky and just 3 weeks if you were really lucky. It was fking amazing. It was like that till just before the first round of extended strikes started, then delivery times nose dived, like a Boeing on autopilot.

They never picked the ball up again after the first major backlog, its pushing 6yrs now since the slow down started.

The slow down affects domestic post as severely, sending a parcel with the post office right now is useless. A PO parcel delivery that used to take 7 days max to arrive can now take 21 days. For that shoddy service they want R70(5kg parcel) for which a courier charges R99 and delivers next day to your door or latest 3 days if to a Postnet . THEY ARE CRAZY!!
