Spy Shots: 2020 BMW M2 CS

The BMW M2 range will be bolstered by a flagship high-performance offering in 2020. While we don't know what it'll officially be called, rumours are rife that what you see is the new BMW M2 CS.

If the BMW M3 CS was anything to go by, we're in for a treat. Not only did the BMW M2 win some Cars Awards - powered by WesBank from us, but its Competition sibling was a finalist too. It's safe to, therefore, assume that we're fans of this lithe and agile compact performance model, with some members of the team dubbing it 'the only M I'd buy."

So, what do we know of the BMW M2 CS? Officially BMW denies it's existence but BMW fan sites and spy photographers have been spotting hotted up M2 mules for quite some time, so we know that either BMW is already preparing its next-generation M2, or making a halo version, or a combination of both.

G-Power M2 Competition Churns Out Same Power As A Ferrari 488 – 670 HP (500 KW)

If you own a BMW M2 Competition and are in search for a way to give it a bit more shove, you aren’t exactly short on options in terms of companies that will modify the car for you. There is one company, however, that you should probably take note of – a company called G-Power.

If you take your standard M2 Competition to these guys, they will increase the power output from the standard 404 HP (302 kW) up to quite a staggering 670 HP (500 kW) and 860 Nm of torque. To put that into perspective, that is the same power that, not too long ago, the Lamborghini Murcielago SV produced. Except now, you can have it in your BMW 2-Series.

BMW M2 Competition handed MASSIVE power upgrade!

Ever find yourself thinking the BMW M2 Competition is too tame? Well, it seems the folks over at German tuner G-Power think so, too, revealing its latest performance upgrades for the Bavarian brand's smallest coupé.

The newly unveiled package includes modifications to the turbochargers, a new exhaust system and the firm's V4 performance software.

The 3,0-litre inline-six, which churns out 302 kW and 550 N.m as standard, now produces an additional 205 kW and 310 N.m of torque.

Yes, that means the uprated twin-turbo mill now sends a staggering 507 kW and 860 N.m of torque to the rear wheels via its seven-speed automatic transmission. Not only are these figures more than the Munich-based automaker’s most hardcore M4 (the CS with 338 kW and 600 N.m), they also top those of the M5 Competition’s 4,4-litre twin-turbo V8 (460 kW/750 N.m).

The Brunsbüttel-based company says this tuned M2 Competition is capable of reaching the 100 km/h mark from standstill one second quicker than standard (3,2 seconds compared with 4,2 seconds). Top speed is claimed to be more than 330 km/h.

BMW France has decided to launch a legacy edition of its BMW M2 Competition that pays homage to its older sports roots. The special edition reserved for the French market is limited to only 40 copies, all numbered, and has many design elements recalling, at first glance, the BMW 2002 Turbo.

The BMW 2002 Turbo has become a very sought-after collector model which is continuously growing in value.

Great review. Did I miss the section on suspension and how it handles bumpy/ bad tar roads??
