The BMW M2 & M2 Competition Thread

Not *everything* in life is about outright straight line speed. Other factors do come at play also.

indeed, there is something to be said about power delivery and in gear acceleration.

Not at all , I mean ugly.. as in that doesn't even look right. My car suffers from the same thing

Suffers? Wow, I like your choice of words... I think you suffer more than the car :)
The car probably feels fine - they don't have self-image problems as far as I know... But yes, I too have to agree it looks, uhm, ugly - the BMW I mean. I just feel there must be a better word for it, and no, it ain't "aggressive".

What's the price difference between M2 and M4?

In the States, the M2 starts at $53k and last I checked the M4 Coupe starts at $63k.

Here in SA the M4 Coupe starts at R1m. I haven't seen a local price yet for the M2, but the M235i starts at R570k and I would expect a decent jump from that to the M2.

Since seeing BMW's head up display in action, I've always wanted that tech really badly. It's not available in the 2 Series, so that would be a compelling reason to favour the 4 Series for me if I could afford either.

Head-Up display is awesome especially the BMW system which is crystal clear with additional items.

The M4 Coupe typically spec with optional M-DCT, Adaptive Suspension, 19" Mags, Carbon Fiber trim and Harman Kardon. That brings the price to R1.2 million. Many costumers add Adaptive LED Lights, Keyless Entry/Start, Head-Up Display which brings price to R1.25 milion.

The M2 does not have expensive options apart from M-DCT gearbox, Harman Kardon and Sunroof. The pricing should be around R800k. That is R400k less than typical M4 Coupe.

I dunno. The 2 Series has a lot of expensive options - I think the M2 will run higher than that for most people. BMW will make sure it can't get within R200k of an M4 at any configuration, but that's still a difference that isn't all that big to someone who can afford a pimped out M2.

Even if the gap is fairly big, I'd personally take a 435i over an M2.

^ Well said. As a fair comparison RRP of MY 2016 AMG A45 (280kw) is R683k

Side question - have you committed to only owning Fiesta ST's?

Spoke to a BMW dealer today - only expecting to receive the first units in April / May. The car photographed above is for a motoring journalist. Expected list price of R750, but expect an R850 to R900 final figure with extras added.
