New MINI John Cooper Works Preview Coming Next Month

Since the new electric MINI Cooper debuted last September, we’ve been eager to learn everything about the next-generation John Cooper Works (JCW). Mini will fully reveal the hot hatch later this year, but we’ll get our first glimpse of a camouflaged model during this year’s 24 Hours of Nürburgring.

Mini remains tight-lipped about the JCW’s specifications, but it has confirmed both gas and all-electric powertrains.

The JCW will boast a much bolder front grille flanked by new air intakes, a chunky rear diffuser and an upturned roof spoiler for a more performance-oriented appearance.

This British-built petrol car will be a heavily updated version of the previous John Cooper Works, retaining the 2.0-litre turbocharged engine but likely receiving a power boost to compete with rivals like the Volkswagen Golf GTI. The old car’s performance-focused chassis with upgraded springs and dampers will carry over, alongside lightened and strengthened components for enhanced responsiveness and agility.

The JCW’s bespoke camouflage pays homage to the white-and-red colour scheme used on classic Mini race cars in the 1960s. It also sports a “37” logo commemorating the brand’s historic victory at the 1964 Rallye Monte Carlo.

Nürburgring debut set for the fastest new Mini. Before that, here are some prototype pics

Hot hatch enthusiasts, rejoice! Mini has confirmed the John Cooper Works variant of its hatch will debut at the Nürburgring 24 Hours on 1 June, before it goes on sale later this year. And yes, it will be offered in both combustion and all-electric form.

Browsing through these camo shots - one of two race cars that’ll be entered in the showpiece German endurance race - the design changes over the Cooper S are pretty clear to see.

Those include the return of an open grille and huge air inlets on either side, with more aggressive side skirts and a not-at-all intimidating rear diffuser for company. It’s also been given a centrally-mounted single exhaust, which we think looks ace. Though it remains to be seen just how much of this will be carried across to the final production spec.

In terms of powertrains, we expect the ICE model to boast an uprated version of the turbocharged 2.0-litre inline-four found in the S, where it produces 176bhp and 207lb ft of torque. The more polar bear-friendly electric hatch should also pull the powertrain from the equivalent SE, albeit with a sharp rise in its 215bhp output.

Not-so-mini-new-Mini gets more length for more doors, coming this summer

Fancy a new Mini Cooper hatch but worried there aren't enough entry and exit points? Mini has now added more doors and a smidgen of additional space to its new hatch. Behold: the five-door Mini Cooper.

It retains the pair of three-cylinder petrol powertrains available in the lesser-doored car, coined ‘C’ and ‘S’. With the former, customers have 158bhp and 170lb ft of torque to play with, resulting in a flat eight-second sprint to 62mph en route to a top speed of 140mph.

The livelier S bumps these figures up to 207bhp and 221lb ft of torque, which cuts the run to 62mph by 1.2s and ups the Vmax by 10. Not quite Autobahn conquering speeds, but plentiful for a traffic jam on the M1.

Other mechanical goodies include dynamic suspension and dampers to provide excitement in the corners, while a preloaded anti-roll bar and bigger brakes should do a good job of keeping the car in check.

Mini Cooper S 5-door

With a length of 4,036 mm, a width of 1,744 mm and a height of 1,464 mm, the body dimensions are almost identical to those of its predecessor and underline the basic idea behind every MINI: To create as much space as possible on a small footprint.

In the case of the MINI Cooper 5-door, this means an interior that offers enough space for five passengers. Compared to the new MINI Cooper 3-door, the wheelbase is 72 mm longer and the body 172 mm longer. All of which benefits the occupants in terms of comfort and space. Short overhangs, clear surfaces and expressive accents also give the new MINI Cooper 5-door its unmistakable charisma. Inside, digital innovations and an immersive user experience take the MINI DNA to a new level.

The larger body version of the purist MINI Cooper also delivers the brand's hallmark driving fun and agile handling. There is a choice of two efficient petrol engines which, combined with the modern chassis and precise steering, deliver the hallmark MINI go-kart feeling.

The three-cylinder petrol engine of the MINI Cooper C 5-door generates 115 kW/156 hp. The MINI Cooper S 5-door is powered by a four-cylinder petrol engine with 150 kW/204 hp. Hallmark MINI steering and powerful brakes ensure a high level of driving fun, safety, and comfort. Compact dimensions, short overhangs, and a small turning circle of 11.4 metres make the MINI Cooper 5-door a versatile model for the city.

The new MINI Cooper 5-door combines charismatic MINI design with an extra portion of functionality. In the rear, the noticeably wider interior provides comfortable space for three passengers. The 60:40 folding rear seats increase the luggage compartment capacity from 275 litres to up to 925 litres.

2025 Mini Cooper 5-Door Revealed

The new-generation Mini Cooper 5-Door has just been shown, bringing additional practicality to the cool hatchback’s lineup. Here are some early details.

The cute Cooper family has expanded with the unveiling of the practicality-focused Mini Cooper 5-door. While we’d all love the cute two-door Mini hatchback, the reality is that a 5-door derivative offers that much more practicality and space.

So, what’s happened under the skin? The Mini Cooper 5-door has been stretched out, both in terms of wheelbase and overall length. It’s now at 4 036 mm long (17 cm longer than the two-door) and the wheelbase extended by 72 mm. It may not sound like much, but just a few centimetres extra is needed to separate a rear passenger’s knees from the seat in front of them.

New Mini 5 Door hatch revealed with multi-colour roof, swanky cabin

Mini has been hard at work renewing its line-up in the past year, with the new-generation Countryman and three-door hatch models as well as the first ever Aceman compact SUV all making their debuts.

Now the BMW-owned British brand has pulled the covers off its latest five-door hatch model.

Unlike the redesigned three-door electric Mini that’s built on a new Chinese-derived platform, the latest-generation five-door joins the recently refreshed three-door combustion version on an updated version of Mini’s existing architecture.

With that mouthful out the way, let’s size it up. Measuring 4,036mm in length and with a width of 1,744mm, the new five-door boasts similar dimensions to the outgoing model, making it a cool 172mm longer than the three-door model. The boot holds 275 litres when all seats are in place.

Interestingly there is no mention of an electric version as yet, and initially the Mini 5 Door will be available in two petrol-powered flavours.
