So big brother in the USA is tracking people by cellphone movements. Now they can also do this when you are in car.

Nice technology, that addresses a real world problem in RSA.

But it will be exploited by the CIA and its need to protect US citizens from imagined bad guys.

Do you think if someone in Hollywood made a movie and told the terrorists side of the story would they win an Oscar?

Well, seeing as your cell phone will generally be in the car with you, don't see that it makes much difference. I was told though, that it's only the pressing of the button that sends a message plus coordinates to the call centre. If you press for an accident and then drive on, they will not be able to find you. In fact, the salesman said that if you come across an accident, you can actually press the SOS button and then drive off if you feel unsafe. The emergency services will be directed to the GPS coordinates of that specific location.

Thanks; will check it out and likely join.

No cost as far as I know (maybe to BMW) - car comes with a sim card as I understand it.

Just a heads up - I paid about 5k for the cosmetic care package for my BMW. At the time, all I was told was, "do not accumulate scratches/dings etc". No other words or detail. No problem said I.

For some reason I was emailed the entire bunch of documents relating to this package again last Thursday (night). Having a fairly quiet day at work, I read through the multiple doc's. They are very reasonable in limiting claims to R3000 for the specified issue (scratches/dings/chips etc). Or so I thought.

Where the fine print comes into play is that they will not assess you only for the little scratch you brought your car in for. Nope, as per the fine print, they will look at ALL damage to your car, and if the totality exceeds R3000 they will decline to rectify the small cosmetic damage you thought you were covered for.

So be warned. Also, the dealership does not want to give you a courtesy car for any time the car needs to be repaired - well; I haven't argued this with them yet.

My feeling is that for them to offer a 5k insurance cover for 5 years means that there is something odd going on. As in loaded against people claiming or wanting to claim.

As a general rule, if a company sells you something, they benefit more than you do and they will hire lawyers to make sure of it.

- The latest version of the ZF automatic unit now also offers transmission management supported by navigation data. eight-speed automatic give it longer gearing and predictive shifting based on the vehicle's navigation system data.

- automatic map updating by mobile phone via the embedded SIM card, which is free of charge to customers for the first three years following registration of the car. eight-speed automatic give it longer gearing and predictive shifting based on the vehicle's navigation system data.

I gotta say, was never a huge fan of BMW but they've become my favourite of the big 3 luxury German marques (used to be Audi). Really impressed by their interiors (got a classy Scandinavian feel to them), the incorporation of technology wrt internet, apps, linking via phone etc, and the designs have grown on me.
