Except anyone with even half a brain already understands what a disaster WTO terms would be, unfortunately leave has far too many mental halfwits in its ranks that can't comprehend that.

But then are you giving away leverage.

We'll see what happens.

You know I'm pretty sure the real motivation for this is to gain leverage in the negotiations. Realpolitik is the order of the day.

Let's hope so, it doesn't change the fact that a large majority of leave supporters are halfwits jumping up and down clapping as if WTO terms are some form of victory by not negotiating with the nasty EU.

You do know the UK was a net contributor to the EU? To the tune of 8.5 billion pounds in 2015. The EU doesn't hold all the cards here despite what you might believe.

0.3% of the U.K. GDP.

That's going to save you so much money compared to the import duties the EU will impose

The UK is the 2nd largest economy in the EU. Do you think the German industry would allow the EU to risk a trade war with the UK? The EU would shoot themselves in the foot by imposing tariffs.

You're just being nasty now, Chris's head is going to explode with that story :p

Um...not really. Oxford was one of the most pro-EU areas in the country - voted 70% or so to remain.

Not really a surprise...basically indoctrinated students + left-wing academics :p.

How is it breaking news if she's been saying it since the brexit referendum?!? e.g. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-scotland-politics-36621030

and May has already said back in July there won't be a 2nd Scottish referendum: http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/brexit-theresa-may-scottish-independence-referendum-rules-out-second-a7139391.html

The breaking news is the fact it's an official announcement now, as opposed to posturing, that is going to be put to the Scottish parliament, it's a headache to the brexiteers, no matter what they say in public.

The Scottish parliament still has to go hat in hand to the UK parliament and get the go-ahead for a 2nd referendum only 2 years after the 1st. The UK prime minister has said it is a non-starter, end of "breaking news" story.

I remember that May used to be one of those indoctrinated students since she's been at Oxford !

If only British/Scottish politics was that simple...

You become less indoctrinated as you grow older - more independent and less reliant on your friends for your self-esteem :p.

(Although May was a "silent" Remainer IIRC).

Oh, and a quick read up shows you're wrong on what May has said.

After the legislation is passed the Electoral Commission recommends there be at least a six month gap between the legislation passing and the vote being held.

Before the bureaucratic hurdles however, Ms Sturgeon would have to overcome political opposition to a second vote on whether Scotland should breakaway, from MPs and peers in Westminster.

Theresa May has previously said she does not want to see a second referendum in Scotland, but she has not vowed to block it outright.

:erm: of course she has not vowed to block it outright, that would just upset people prematurely, her hints are clear enough:
Theresa May: “As far as I’m concerned, the Scottish people have had their vote, they voted in 2014 and a very clear message came through. Both the United Kingdom and the Scottish Government said they would abide by that,”

She also hasn't vowed not to block it outright ...

Unfortunately, legally it will have to happen if no agreement (I.e. If May leaves the negotiation table) as both the EU and UK are member of the WTO and have to comply with these tariffs in absence of another trade agreement.
