The Brexit Thread

Nice one Sunderland. Voted 61% majority to leave the EU.

Today Nissan in Sunderland decided not to make the new X-trail there. Basically reversing the 2016 decision, which was based on government assurances about Brexit.

With the new FTA Japan has with the EU, why should they bother about Sunderland?

Yep, build them in Japan and they can be imported into Europe with less hassle and cheaper than its currently looking like will happen from the UK, at least for the near future with May and her idiots in charge.

Nissan has confirmed it has abandoned plans to build the new model of one of its flagship vehicles at its plant in Sunderland.

Instead, the next-generation X-Trail SUV will be made in Japan, the manufacturer confirmed in a letter to workers.

The carmaker’s Europe divison boss said Brexit uncertainty had played a part in the decision, in addition to reduced sales forecasts.

Gianluca de Ficchy said the announcement would be “interpreted by a lot of people as a decision related to Brexit” and that “uncertainty around the UK’s future relationship with the EU is not helping companies like ours to plan for the future”.

The decision is a further blow to the UK car industry, following recent moves by Ford, Jaguar Land Rover and Honda to reduce their workforces and cut costs.

But but but but Brexit is going to create 1 million jobs for British people! And not crappy jobs like cleaning toilets, which we don't want to do, but high paying jobs like mechanical engineer, software engineer and accountant. That is what those uber wealthy people promised me. They wouldn't lie, would they?

And we get to show the EU "not to mess with us". Whatever that means.

pretty dramatic for applying for a passport again :p

but now, those car manufacturers also mention reduced sales forecasts and reduction in workforces and cost cutting. or is this now irrelevant in those massive industries that car sales are not doing that well globally for the past few years now already.

3rd largest economy in the EU is an objectively verifiable fact
The EU making unsolicited moves to allow the UK to cancel or delay article 50 is another objectively verifiable fact

What's this about one reality vs another? There is only fact, you're welcome to disagree on why the EU chose to make it that easy for the UK to just call it all off, care to offer a better explanation than "because they're shyte scared of hard brexit and they don't actually hold all the cards"?

It's because that's literally what Article 50 says, not your delusions about the EU being scared. You really do operate in a different reality.

I will of course not be providing the proof you demand for an assertion I never made, I maintain: any multinational HQ'd in the UK, without plans to leave the UK, is leaving the EU by default.

Surprising no one, this is not what you asserted.

This is:

Literally every single large multinational that is in the UK and not threatening to leave the UK, will be leaving the EU.

Being in the UK != HQ'd in the UK. And even if you change it to being HQ'd in the UK, it doesn't make sense, because companies can be HQ'd in the UK, yet still have an EU office/presence. A lot of companies are doing this, because they don't want to lose access to the EU market.

And your deflection to the EU being a 'political body' is also not helping you either, since companies can't leave political bodies that they weren't a part of, by definition.

Just admit you were wrong, it's not that hard.

What? Now you’ve really smacked yourself with the stupid stick. There is no physical territory called the E.U.?
Nobody except YOU used the word territory idiot, the UK is not leaving a territory, the UK is leaving a political body.

If you disagree, please provide the UK's plans for cutting their island loose from the tectonic plate and motorising it in order to move it
/facepalm

You can’t provide proof for your bullshít statement, everyone else here understands why...

“An assertion I never made”, are you denying you said this?
The assertion you demand proof for is based on your incorrect interpretation of those words. So yes, I never made YOUR assertion.

A vassal to the EU - rofl!

Do you yearn for the Good Old Days when Britannia was Master of the Waves and held an Empire on which the sun never set?

"Them folk at the EU should be taking orders from us, not the other way around!"
These people don't seem to realise the UK had significant influence over the EU as a member.

The UK is just another country. Sure, it has a high GDP. It has an important place in the EU. But that is it - a place in the EU. Just like any other country. Just like Germany or France.
The unanswered question now is how much of that high GDP is a result of being a member of the EU.

Sure, it is so clear they had to get their highest court to determine it to be so.

sweet jesus, just as stupid as dave then, confirmed

There’s a saying “Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and to remove all doubt”.

You’ve just removed all doubt about it multiple times...

So being called out on repeated refusals to accept an author's interpretation of his own words rather than substitute it for your incorrect interpretation has you out of options, only ad hominems remaining in the quiver?

I think most rational people use the conventional English meaning of words and not what the crazy guy who’s digging his hole deeper and deeper is trying to pretend those words mean because he made a mistake and just can’t admit to it...

You can tell he's used to defending Trump.....

Indeed, in conventional English:
literally leaving a virtual entity does not involve any physical movement

Go back to English class then, and kindly stop projecting your own lack of linguistic prowess onto me, good day.

DIG, DIG, DIG...

Everyone else can read your statement and knows exactly what hysterical hyperbole you were trying to portray.

You are yes, you hit rock bottom ages ago, yet you persist. It would be commendable if it wasn't so pathetic.

There’s only one person digging themselves into a really deep hole.

And yet only you and the regular circle jerk members persist with the intentionally incorrect interpretation. Funny that ...

And that circle jerk is every other poster (except you) in this discussion?

Strange that not a single other person wants to agree with you, you don’t think maybe it’s because you’re wrong?

Maybe it’s because everyone else can understand English and doesn’t have the same struggles as you with comprehension?

/snip boring meme'ing which is the next devolution from ad hominem responses only

that circle jerk is every other poster (except you) in this discussion?
You high? The regular circle jerk is well known, we've had unhappy, orbital and cray weigh in, card carrying members of the circle jerk. Toxic Bunny has not quite got that membership card yet, but I understand his application is under review.

Not to mention Sayf777 got it without assistance and noone else bothered with this boring discussion at all, can hardly blame them. Of course you wouldn't be silly enough to claim that majority opinion somehow alters objective fact now would you?
