The Brexit Thread

I'm giving you the reasons why people voted to leave. Nonsense or not, it doesn't change the facts.

It's true that lies and bigotry seem fundamental.

The NHS is getting extra money if I recall. It was announced last year. Oops (https://uk.reuters.com/article/us-b...alth-service-cash-boost-reports-idUKKBN1JC10P )

I guess from the same guy who thinks posts a picture of the Daily Mirror as a "barometer" for how the country feels about Boris, I can't expect anything less. Then polls (poll 1 , poll 2 ) come after Boris is announced leader and shows the complete opposite to what Buka wants to portray. Oops again.

Oh wait, polls are to be believed again? Man, you guys flip flop a lot.

No deal Brexit doesn't have anywhere close to majority support, btw.

The EU has not been spiteful. They consistently applied the rules they've applied to everyone else. Some in the UK were under the impression that the UK was a special snowflake and thus the EU would fall over themselves to provide the UK with terms entirely in the UK's favour. Amazingly that didn't happen

Pretty much. The EU has been the only consistent party in this. Brexiteers feel free to lie, smear and disparage anything and everything about the EU and its leaders, including campaigning on very cynically trying to screw the EU over if it can, apparently unaware that they have internet over there.

Why would anyone put that on a campaign slogan?

Its a figure of speech, the point is quite simple in that Brexit was never marketed as any kind of a pain scenario. Its only that since the narrative has shifted.

EXC: On Sky News now: we’ve obtained a “sensitive” internal Whitehall slide which makes sober reading about the first month of a no deal brexit. It warns of - “consumer panic” - “law and order challenges” in NI - security gaps - Brits abroad return

Hmm, not quite as catchy...

It's true that lies and bigotry seem fundamental.

This is the narrative...

Take a walk in any town or city in England on a summers day and you'll see Eastern Europeans pushing prams and enjoying the sunshine with an ice cream. British working people see this, and they don't like the fact that they are working while they see the incomers enjoying the fruits of their taxes. To rub it in, they are sending money back to Poland and Romania who have no such welfare benefits. Many city centres have become no go zones also with many beggars from these places drinking away their handouts and then turning to begging until the next benefit cheque comes.

I would like to stress that this is my observation on why your average British person voted to leave the EU, it is not my opinion. An observation gained through living, working and interacting with people over 18 months since the vote took place. My friends and family are all over there and most of them support Brexit. My opinion, though not relevant to the discussion, is the government failing to address the continuous cuts to public services while prioritising tax breaks for the super rich. Working people see reductions in policing, increasing crime, declining NHS and the Eastern Europeans are easy targets to apportion the blame to. In other words, it is easier to blame the people taking advantage of the system rather than the administrators. I blame the administrators.

Anyway, I'm just pointing out why I believe the UK is in this mess in the first place.

Absolute bollocks and shows you haven't even read a summary of the Withdrawal Agreement which is 100% loaded in the EU's favour.

But, Pitbull et al all say No Deal Brexit is the majority will of the people.

Do please add up the Tory + Brexit + UKIP vote. Result might surprise you..... Tories will dumb to pick the same candidate who was recalled but result was much closer than anticipated. Still disappointed that the illiberal unDemocrats won, but a GE should mean the seat returns to the Tories.

They tried to make a deal, that failed. Obviously remoaners now want to crawl back to the EU and apologise for the whole thing but the majority of people wanted Brexit and that is a no deal Brexit now that the EU doesn't want to make a deal.

It isn't rocket science.

Except in recent elections where the majority of votes have gone to parties who are against a No deal.

Well there isn't a Brexit with a deal option. All that's left is a no deal exit. Go and complain to the EU that they aren't being very democratic and not respecting the votes of the British.

I have. It is a pretty standard agreement for remaining in the customs union. Neither is the UK locked into that indefinitely. It was clear early on the leave side thought that the UK was a special snowflake that the EU would bend over backwards to accommodate. That was never going to happen.

U.S. tells Britain to drop tax proposal on U.S. tech firms for trade deal - The Telegraph

(Reuters) - The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump has told Britain it will not get a free trade deal unless it drops a new tax proposal for major U.S. tech companies, the Telegraph newspaper reported late on Friday.

Britain had said in October it would tax the revenues of companies such as Alphabet Inc's Google, Facebook Inc and Amazon.com Inc to create a fairer tax system that had not kept pace with changing digital business models.

U.S. officials are demanding that Britain drops the new 'Digital Services Tax' before it becomes law in autumn, according to the report

Sounds reasonable. ;)
