The Brexit Thread

Regardless of what happens today, if we could just ****ing get on with it that would be great. I'm sick of hearing bullshit from both sides - of hearing about Brexit. If the Tories win, get it done! If Labour wins, cancel it! I really don't care anymore.
How long do you think it will take to 'get it done' if the Tories win?

It's all hypothetical at this point because the timeline is constantly changing. Even if they win, Labour will just keep blocking every new deal in Parliament until the EU eventually just tells the UK to piss off, and it ends up being a hard Brexit - which, strangely, is what I think they (Labour) want? It would give them a few years of being able to say "I told you so!" and would then guarantee them the next election anyway. Under the circumstances, I'd say a year. Unhindered, potentially much sooner.

If Labour win, they will end Brexit almost immediately, probably through the guise of a second referendum to make it seem democratic (bearing in mind that there are many people out there who are still neutral, and a growing number like me who are just over it already and maybe wouldn't vote for or against it a second time round). And then everything would go back to "normal", except the EU won't just let this slide. They will do their utmost to make an example out of the UK so that no other country in the bloc ever dares attempt anything like this ever again.

So, you're damned if you do, damned if you don't.

How long do you think it would take to 'get it done' if the Tories win and Labour abides by the decision and doesn't block every new deal? Unhindered as you say? Less than a year? Estimates I've seen are at least 10 years...

If the Tories win a majority, Labour will not be able to block it.

But yes, I agree that Johnson wants people to believe that he can have Brexit wrapped up in a little bow before Christmas. But the truth is, I think it will take years. Even if the current proposed agreement is ratified by parliament, it will still take years to negotiate trade deals.

Chuck Chukka? Oh its a reference to the name of that politician, the one who left Labour?

The EU will never let it drag on for that long.

It will be democratic. Not everyone bothered to vote last time.

EU really won't have to do anything. The UK would have made an example of itself either way.

From what I recall it was the biggest turnout for a vote in a very long time. Think the results would be any different to one side of the other if the rest voted?
Yes, the results would be different in that the younger age groups are more likely to vote Labour but also have the lowest turnout

I'm sure margins will change as people have changed their minds either for or against. I don't think it will change the overall outcome though. Even though it was pretty close. The turnout was something like 33M voters? That is extremely high given any election globally.

I highly doubt it will change by such a scale to affect the outcome. Unless something really drastic happens.

Wife said the same. She was in and out in less than 2 minutes. Only four options on the ballot unlike the 25+ we have here.

Three minutes.

That's how long it took me to get to my polling station, cast my vote, and walk out again.

Read on Twitter there were queues going 'around the block' -- then I checked and it's either in South London (2 Lab, 1 Con seat, although the Con seat will probably fall to Labour tonight) or that city known for having <sarcasm> close </sarcasm> races - Manchester.
